Mike Kelly has declared himself the victor of Eden-Monaro, but it is far too close to call. It will go to preferences and that will probably favour Labor as the Greens have about four thousand votes. He will probably be right, but it’s still a bit early to call it.
Eden-Monaro (67% counted)

Tracey Grimshaw, without sound on Channel Nine, looks like she’s just mildly tipsy. Rather amusing to watch

Nationally it is now beyond doubt. Labor have won. Even if all of Western Australia were to go to the coalition, the required swing to the coalition in the other states would be virtually impossible. I’m declaring it…Labor have won, Kevin Rudd is the new prime minister.

This is also very close, some say John Howard is out, but I think it is far too close to call.

The coalition currently have a two seat advantage in Queensland, which isn’t going to be enough to get the Liberals over the line and we are very likely to see Kevin Rudd declare at 9:30. Channel Nine have just given the election to Labor.

Labor 53
Coalition 32

Queensland still hasn’t produced a definitive result, but it looks like Queensland and Western Australia will be the places which decide the result. The bottom line is that the coalition need to win these states to win the election. If the Queensland results don’t show a swing to the coalition within the next hour, you can expect Kevin Rudd to claim victory at about 9:30…otherwise it will probably be 10:30 or 11pm before we can be sure enough of the result to see a leader claim victory.

Labor are doing extremely well in New South Wales. However with this margin it could come down to the votes from WA, which will mean a very very long night indeed.
