Samuel’s Musician Of The Week

This week the award goes to a woman with an incredibly recognisable and unique voice, Joni Mitchell, and the feature song is probably her most recognisable song…it’s been redone by many people since Joni released it in 1970, but as far as I’m concerned nobody can sing it as well as her.

The song, if you haven’t worked it out already, is Big Yellow Taxi. Wikipedia has plenty of information about it.

They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swingin’ hot spot

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Til its gone
They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)
(True, bop bop bop bop)

They took all the trees
Put ’em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see ’em

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Til its gone
They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)
(True, bop bop bop bop)

Hey farmer farmer
Put away that D.D.T. now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Til its gone
They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)
(True, bop bop bop bop)

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Til its gone
They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)

I said
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Til its gone
They paved paradise
Put up a parkin’ lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)
They paved paradise
Put up a parking lot
(True, bop bop bop bop)
(High pitched) They paved paradise
(Low picthed) Put up a parking lot
Hahaha

Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll: Industrial Relations

A fairly straight forward question with an awful lot of complexity behind it this week.

Which industrial relations policy do you prefer?

I’m personally quite happy with Work Choices, but that could be because I have a decent and fair employer. Ultimately I think Labor’s plans fly in the face of the constitution in a lot of aspects and will need serious adjustment before being viable. Even iff their planned reforms were viable, I still prefer Work Choices.

None the less, I’d love to hear what you think, perhaps you can see more merit in Labor’s plans than I can, if so, leave a comment below and let me know.

Now, the results from the previous poll.

Should the United States adopt gun control laws similar to Australia’s gun control laws?

That was an awful lot closer than I expected. I was expecting at least 65% “yes” but I suppose it is a very controversial issue, and there are some very interesting arguments on both sides of the fence.

For a list of all previous results, see the Weekly Poll Results page.
