Atom feed problems

Overnight I discovered that the atom feed was showing everything on the front page, which for some unknown reason was everything on this blog, despite the settings being different.

I have changed the settings slightly so that now the last 14 days appear on the front page and the feed.

For some reason this sent the feed into ga-ga land and it was only giving out 4 posts from a couple weeks back, this has fixed itself overnight (good, I didn’t have to do it!) and the feed works properly again.

I apoligise to feed subscribers who experienced problems, hopefully it won’t happen again.

Feed subscribers will now have a shorter list of recent posts making it easier and faster to obtain, and people visiting the front page of the blog will have a shorter page which loads much faster.

New on Samuel’s Blog

Those of you who have keen eyesight or subscribe to my atom feed will have noticed that I now have “Samuel’s Coffee-cup-o-meter”, this is a measurement of how much coffee I drink each day. For the purposes of this, a standard mug (no measurements, just what I consider standard) counts as one point, a shop coffee (Cappuccino is what I usually have) is one point, on the rare occasion that I have Iced Coffee, that is one point…and for those of you who are thinking “right, everything is one point, gotcha” well, you’re wrong. I usually have a thermos of coffee and a travel mug with me, a half full travel mug is about the same as one standard mug, and as such gets one point, a 75%ish full travel mug attracts 1.5 points, and a 90%+ full travel mug attracts 2 points. I usually carry enough coffee for two 75%ish coffee’s, but sometimes have more.

“Now you know”

People trying to censor my blog.

This is just weird. I had a comment today from somebody suggesting that I “shouldn’t make that kind of comment” in relation to my Friday the 13th post, in particular, the “Idiot number three” section.

Isn’t it just wonderful that some people think that I shouldn’t be able to express my own opinion, I pointed out to this person that “It is my blog and my opinion” and that “I might consider them to be an idiot on one day and not another, that is my choice, and it is my right to say that.”

I didn’t point this out, but if the person is reading this then they can read it anyway. If you don’t like something I say, you have every right to call me an idiot, to reply with comments, and to dress in an orange tutu and dance down the street with signs saying “Samuel Is Wrong”…that is your choice…however, I have a right to express my opinion, and if you don’t agree, fine you don’t have to, but you don’t have the right to stop me from saying it.

Blogger.com and HTML emails

It seems that blogger.com isn’t reading HTML emails properly any more, which forces me to use the blogger.com web interface. Not ideal, but I guess it will do the job for now. Don’t expect it to slow me down though 🙂

Why has my blog gone quiet?

Probably because I haven’t posted anything…so let me make some noise….

ACTION still haven’t replied to my email, however I have noticed some silent action taking place. The 8:35 bus does appear to be purposefully be running 5 minutes late now, twice in a row, maybe it will be three times in a row tommorow…

I have some interesting career news, but that will have to wait for confirmation, hopefully tommorow.

Have I become a news source?

Quite possibly… ZDNet obviously had a reporter at lca who reported on the Tridge event, whilst The Register, apart from some info about why Tridge was at LCA, and some history of the story have no more info than my blog in their story, they also mention attendees as a source… See the story here

btw, some new photos on the photo gallery

Comments

Well, the coments for this blog (there were none, so I created one) weren’t appearing on the main page…there wasn’t even anything to tell you if there were any comments…pathetic template I guess.
Anyway, I decided to update the template…this *should* have been a longish process, choose a new template, add all my links back in, decide I don’t like the template and start all over again. Instead I just copied the comments code from the permalink section on to the main page section of the template and added a few line breaks.

To be honest, I like this template, I like the colour scheme, it is just has some painful default settings. Oh well, I feel like I’ve acomplished something 🙂

Welcome to Samuel’s lcaLIVE

Greetings internet traveller, welcome to my blog, the official site of Samuel’s lcaLIVE.
Over the next week or so, Samuel’s lcaLIVE will bring you all the latest news and information relating to me and Linux.Conf.Au 2005

Today is Sunday 17 April 2005 and the first day of the week of LCA, I will be going to the venue today to complete my registration. I could do that tommorow morning, but I expect that there will be a large amount of people doing that tommorow morning. While I am down there I will try to find out some information about live video/audio of the event.

Today I am putting the final touches on my seminar which will occur at 11am on Tuesday, stay tuned for more details.
