Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll: The Persiflage Puzzle – Keep or Discard?

Time for another Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll.

Should the Persiflage Puzzle be a part of Samuel’s Persiflage?

Total Votes: 25
Started: February 3, 2007

Over the last couple episode of Samuel’s Persiflage I have received a few emails and comments from people who aren’t fans of the Persiflage Puzzle, so I’ll attempt to gauge the general consensus on the issue.

Feel free to discuss the poll subject in the comments below. You need to be a registered member of Samuel’s Blog to comment, but anyone can vote. The system will attempt to prevent you from voting more than once, and whilst it might not always be able to do that, I request that you only vote once.

Disclaimer: This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you’re using these numbers to do anything important, you’re insane. That being said, I do try to keep the results fair and accurate, and I try to prevent abuse by unscrupulous voters, but I can’t make any guarantees.

Now for the results from last week’s poll.

Are consumers being treated fairly by the petroleum industry?

I was expecting the “no” vote to win, obviously plenty of people think the petrol industry is acting fairly…why I’ll never know…but that was the result of the poll.

What do you think the minimum age should be for people to drive a car without supervision (eg. obtain “P” plates)?

There were also a few legitimate votes for the answer “13 and under”, which was removed from the poll after repeated abuse. I suspect that the majority of votes for “14” were from the “13 and under” abuser(s), however the results were certainly quite interesting none the less, it would appear that the general concensus is for older (and theoretically more mature) drivers, although opinion is clearly divided on exactly what age that should be.

Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll: Minimum Driving Age

Now that I’ve had a bit of “public beta” time to adjust a couple settings on the polling system and fix a few minor issues, it’s time to kick off the series of weekly polls.

I’ll try not to create polls with this many options in the future, but for some polls it is necessary. I have included the common ages and some that surround them, and left the less common ages with blanket options, just vote for the one that fits your opinion.

The results from the test poll are as follows:

Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll

I have decided that, just for the fun of it, I will have a weekly poll. I will start it on Sunday morning in the wee hours as I am generally up at that time to send movie trivia questions to John Kerr’s “Flicks and Things” sgement with Dale Sinden & Simon Foster, as a part of “The Questionable Trio”.

The weekly poll will run roughly from the beginning on Sunday to the end of Saturday, give or take a few minutes, and the latest poll will always be available on the main page’s sidebar under the Samuel’s Persiflage entry. I will also have a post each week detailing the results from the previous week’s poll, as well as revealing the new week’s poll.

Just as a teaser while I iron out a couple issues and get ready for the first week long poll, here is a sample poll to kick things off.

For those of you who are wondering, the polls run on the Democracy plugin for WordPress, as it seems to be about the only poll system which doesn’t either mess up the formatting of the blog, or refuse to connect to the MySQL database when I want it to. I decided to use a polling system that I can host on this website rather than use an external system as it is nicer to have proper control over the polling system…and a WordPress plugin fits in with the blog perfectly (well not the other one I tried).
