Favourite Police Shows
October 20th, 2007 at 01:00pm
Good afternoon Glenn,
My favourite police drama is Water Rats which channel Nine screened a few years back. I am also a fan of The Bill, especially now that it has mostly done away with the soap opera storylines and returned to solving crimes.
And unlike Domenic, I can't stand CSI. As far as I'm concerned it's an annoying waste of an hour of air-time…although I could say that about most of the shows on television these days.
Regards,

My favourite police show was “Derrick”.
It was about a Munich Chief Inspector called Derrick, and his long-time assistant, Detective Harry Klein.
In total, 281 episodes were produced between 1974 and 1998, a period of 24 years ! (That must be some sort of record ).
The role of Chief Inspector Derrick was played by Horst Tappert, and the program was shown only on SBS Television.
The dialogue was in German with English subtitles (supplied by SBS ).
I’m hoping that SBS show more episodes of “Derrick” in the not too distant future. ( The problem is, SBS have to do the English subtitles themselves, and the sheer number of episodes would make that a rather expensive and time consuming task ).

Hi John,
Maybe the australian captioning centre can do it for them through an interpreter? SBS would then get the tapes for the show pre-striped with subtitles and all they’d have to do is play them.

That might be how they do it already Frankster. I don’t know how SBS go about getting subtitles on foreign TV shows.
All I know is that we’re not gettin to see a ‘skerrick’ of Derrick at the moment.

I’ve never been a fan of police dramas, but I did enjoy “Kindergarten Cop”
