Last Night’s Storm
February 22nd, 2007 at 09:02am
A storm with a decent drop of rain passed over Canberra last night. John B1_B5 recorded 50mm of rain between 8pm and 1am, and here’s what it looked like at my place.
First up a video of rain and storm activity

And a video of storm activity

The drain in the front yard was struggling with the downpour, and whilst these photos don’t do a great job of showing it, there was plenty of water floating around.
I then decided to take some 15 second exposure shots which, thanks to the lightning, proved to be quite interesting.
And I also took one 60 second exposure shot from roughly the same angle as the second video
This is what the radar was showing shortly after these photos were taken

Couldn’t see much on the videos Samuel, but listening to the
soundtrack, it sound like you had at least 50mm or more.

It was dark and the lighting wasn’t great…the videos were there more to highlight the frequency of the lightning than anything else.

And I still gotta get a rain gauge!

Yeah. I notice they didn’t even bother to give rainfall
figures on the ABC TV weather tonight.
You need to have your own gauge if you want to know
how much rain you got in your area.

Pretty pictures. Miss those Canberra storms of late. Apparently there’s ‘sposed to be summer storms in QLD, but we’ve had nothing like the ones a stormin’ in Canberra this summer.
Climate change?

Possibly Jey…but that begs the question…deadly climate change or natural occurrence.
By the way El Nino is officially over, so that could have something to do with it.
