Google to buy YouTube?
October 7th, 2006 at 01:53pm
I just noticed on AAP that Google are in talks to buy YouTube for about USD$1.6 Billion.
Previously analysts have said that only a fool would buy YouTube, because of the large amount of potential lawsuits over copyright infringements…however Google have worked out a way to sell some videos on Google Video (Leo Laporte’s “Call For Help” sells for 99 US cents per episode on Google Video) and have obviously dealt with the same legal issues as YouTube, so they are probably the right people to buy YouTube.
I just hope Google utilise the YouTube flash player as a replacement for their own, and learn a thing or two about ease of use from YouTube’s uploader interface.

I prefer You Tube. As you stated in Persiflage 8, it is easier to use.
However, I am uspet that the managment of WWE has banned the watching of old WWF videos. I can’t watch Hulk Hogan or Wrestle Mainia 5.

I don’t, in fact, mind that WWE has banned their videos from YouTube. After all, they pay for the costs of production, T.V. rights etc., and by allowing a showing on a free site, it creates a disadvantage for anyone who pays for cable, pays for the PPVs and pays for the DVDs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if WWE consider selling their videos on Google Video sometime in the near future.

Agreed Clayton. However, sometimes one just needs a nostalgic look back with out forking out the $$$

Agreed Roger, especially when more recent showings by WWE aren’t even worth shelling out one $, much less three $$$.
And I too wouldn’t be at all surprised if WWE tap the Internet market in that way in the forms of PPV previews, promos, dark matches (ala their Heat web show) and ‘tasters’.
Samuel, as a sort of interest, are you into wrestling?
