Playlist from a trip to Googong Dam
July 7th, 2009 at 05:59pm
This afternoon I visited Googong Dam, where the-powers-that-be are building a spillway. Photos to follow tomorrow (it gives me a good reason to get the photo gallery back online), but in the meantime I thought you might find this interesting.
For the drive to Googong Dam, plus the walking around the dam, as well as the drive back via Weston Creek (where a free coffee was waiting to be claimed) and my post office box in Dickson (empty…can you believe that neither Senator Kate Lundy, nor a nameless minion, has bothered replied to my letter?), I took the iPod with me and set it to shuffle. I was pleased with the results, and thought I would share with you, the playlist that it created.

I think I’ve got a pretty eclectic taste in music, so, what surprises me is that out of that entire list, your iPod and mine have ony one song in common (if you can guess what it is Samuel I’ll shout you a coffee!) Except for this mystery song – and what I find even more surprising – is not only do I not have any of the songs, I don’t have any of the artists either!! What you have done is provide me with at least an hour’s worth of itunes-ing and You Tube-ing. Good one!

I’ll take a stab at “Dave Edmunds – Girls Talk”?
Incidentally, in regards to the Bond song on the list, I think the Magnus Fiennes mix is better.
And I can think of one other song which is definitely on both of our iPods, “Of Montreal – Wraith Pinned To The Mist And Other Games”. I know it is, because I got the song after hearing about it from you.

Dave Edmunds & Girls Talk, eh? Either that song was on the CD I burnt for you, or you are freaking me out, ’round about now, Samuel!

Nope, it’s not on the CD (I could have sworn that it was though). Looking at the track list, I must have been thinking of a cross between “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Jukebox in Siberia”…that would probably be enough to freak me out.

VERY cool mix! Something for everyone there! Have you ever seen the original film clip for Nancy’s These Boots are Made for Walking? The song was butchered by Jessica Whatsername, but Nancy is the original and the best!

I’d like to see one of Nancy’s original “Boots” clips as a song of the week!

Whether I (or you, for that matter!) should be proud, I’m not sure…. Nonetheless, our ipods share nine in common from this list…
Sneaky Sound System – (Because of you people say I’m) Crazy
Janis Ian – Fly Too High
Kenny Loggins – The Heat Is On
Wham – Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Tina Turner – Simply The Best
Nancy Sinatra – These Boots Are Made For Walking
Ghostbusters Theme [although mine is the original]
Bond – Victory [I prefer the original – the feelings it evokes reminds me of Bolero]
Slim Dusty – G’day G’day

Legshagger, no I haven’t seen it, but thanks for the link, I will check it out.
I think the song is already on the list, but if it’s not, I’ll add it. Actually there are a few songs on that list which aren’t on the Musician(s) Of The Week list and should be.
Davky, I’m surprised that I’m getting this many matches from a small subset of my iTunes library.
I have the original Ghostbusters theme as well…I found this particular remix by accident and liked it, so kept it. No idea who remixed (is that a word?) it though.
As for Victory, I haven’t heard the original which is odd considering that I have two derivations of it. I really do like Magnus’ version though.
And G’day G’day…is any collection complete without it?
