Policies

September 24th, 2007 at 01:51pm

I have had a few people ask why I haven’t properly outlined any policies yet. The answer, unfortunately, is administrative issues.

Right now I am walking a very fine line between this website requiring official authorisation and not requiring it. Publishing policies or other campaign/electoral matter would tip the balance. At the moment I don’t have an office, nor do I have people assisting me, and therefore the street address on the authorisation would have to be my residential address.

As much as I would like to be open to meet the people of Fraser and discuss things with them, I really don’t want to publish my residential address on this website and every single document I produce between now and the election if I can avoid it.

I want to, and plan to, sort this out in the next few days so that I can have an official campaign launch later in the week. This will include a reorganisation of parts of this website.

To that end, if anybody would like to assist with the campaign, please get in contact with me as I would really appreciate it if a handful of people would be willing to put their hand up to help out. At this stage the budget is almost non-existent, but I will do what I can to make it worthwhile for you.

    Samuel,

Authorisation of electoral material is a fact of life when it comes to politics. Besides your details are freely available via the Telstra white pages, not as if you have anything to hide do you?

Secondly I hope administrative issues are not going to be your excuse for lack or policies and being generally unprepared to run for the election…

Yes act, authorisation of electoral matter is a fact of life.

I don’t have anything to hide, but I would still prefer to not plaster my residential address all over Canberra for the next couple of months if I can avoid it. Not so much for my sake, but for the sake of the other people that live here. That matter appears to be the final administrative matter to deal with, and is on track to be sorted out either today or Thursday, which will allow for a proper campaign launch this week.

Apart from that, the Australian Electoral Commission have recommended that I don’t use my residential address to authorise political matter if I can avoid it.

I don’t lack policies, and I am certainly not trying to hide behind red tape. I have a raft of policies that I would love to publish, but doing so before I solve the authorisation problem would be a breach of the electoral act.

    “The budget is almost non-existent”

When you do get in power, Sam, make sure you get a good treasurer!

Very good idea. If there is one job I am not qualified for, it is treasurer of the nation.
