Glenn Wheeler?

Update: Unfortunately I now have confirmation of this story. Glenn was indeed fired this afternoon, I don’t know why. I just can’t see any sense in it. End Update
Further update: Clive Robertson has been appointed to the weekend afternoon shift. End Update
There’s a rumour doing the rounds that 2UE have fired Glenn Wheeler.
Sounds very odd to me, but it would fit with the change to the weekend schedule which starts this weekend. From an outsider’s perspective, I can’t see the logic in it.
I suppose the other rumours which could fit in with this are one that Clive Robertson is getting a daytime shift, and one of 2CC’s many Mikes is moving to 2UE. Clive made a lot of noises about it being the last time he would be on-air after his last shift (could just be his sense of humour), and I can’t see one of 2CC’s Mikes leaving a full time position to take up a weekend shift, especially a week out from the release of the latest ratings.

Too bad about Glenn getting the boot .
PS – Clive would do a lot if he took laxettes !

If Wheeler has received the boot it will be an ugly end to a mercurial career.
The guy rose from the emcee circuit to be buddies with AJ and Hadley. Then a nasty falling out with AJ earned him the boot from 2GB.
If he’s been punted from UE, he’s got nowhere glamorous to go.

Gosh, thats quite a suprise. I always enjoyed his unique announcing style and humour, but I say bring on Robertson! What a refreshing sound at a reasonable hour.

The Herald’s Guide is reporting that Glenn was sacked following an email he sent to the station manager objecting to the OB from the Royal Easter Show. I knew he was on the skids when he went on air and criticised management for taking Don Burke off his show. I’d much rather hear Glenn on 2CC than Hadley and co, but that’s another story . . .

Whilst I take no joy in anyone getting the sack, if you listened to Glenn, he often mocked people and took a very cynical approach to topics. I often disliked the way that people would take the trouble to call in to offer their opinion on a topic and he would then mock them, cut them off from finishing their thought and quickly dump their call.
So the fact that Clive Robertson has taken over his shift is a welcome relief to my Saturday and Sunday afternoons and I think 2UE are better for it! Having said that I did very much enjoy the research and coverage that Glenn did on Franchising as I highlighted the difficulties of what these small business owners go through.
I’m sure that Glenn will pop up elsewhere in the near future, and I wish him all the best in finding other employment.

I find it rather strange that someone who finds Glenn Wheeler cynical and mocking, would look forward to Clive Robinson replacing him. Have you ever listened to Clive Robinson?
I guess it is an unusual trait for a talk back host to mock callers, cut them off and dump their call …. because that generally does not happen on talk back, does it??
