Chaser’s APEC Stunt
September 6th, 2007 at 07:30pm
Good evening Stuart,
I'm sure you will receive plenty of comments about the stunt at APEC by the team from "The Chaser's War On Everything". All I can say is that we are lucky it was them and not somebody more sinister. They exposed a gaping hole in the expensive security in place at APEC and I congratulate them for that. I don't agree with the politicians who have made statements in recent hours that the Chaser team were being irresponsible, in fact I think they would have expected to to be turned away at the first checkpoint…once they got in, it was their duty as journalists (update: oops, wrong words…not entirely sure which words I was looking for) to continue through as far as possible.
The footage indicates that they followed the directions of police, so I think they have been very responsible.
And I would like to nominate Alexander Downer's statement that "the security works" as the stupidest statement of the week. If the security worked, the checkpoints would have known that the Canadians weren't due, and the Chasers would not have managed to get within ten metres of the Intercontinental Hotel.
Have a great night.
Regards,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

I find the Chaser’s brand of comedy more miss than hit.
I think they are just running out of ideas and by their first episode back it shows all too well.
what is funny about seeing Chaz’s ass yet again, ho hum and very dumb.
Oh look they are going to try and get Kevin Rudd to turn red over the strip club story, oh my aching sides, NOT.
What, Peter Costello never played ball with these champions of wit, what’s wrong with you Peter, at least swear or give them something to keep the audience awake.
Chaser’s War On Everything? well er not everthing, more like an after battle with their own unfunny demons.
Could we have Mr. squiggle back at that time slot please ABC, his drawings were quite original, unlike this scruffy lot of airheads.

Hey Sambo, I totally agree with your piece, with the one exception of referring to the lads as ‘journalists.’ I think that is a wee bit generous! π

Tony, I see your point. Many people have said much the same thing about them. I have only recently warmed to them after a few years of not being overly impressed by them.
Davky, I’m not entirely sure what word I was searching for at the time, but “journalist” wasn’t it. I’ve crossed it out now.

Thankyou for that VK. One thing I should point out after reading your comments about the stunt on your blog is that the Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper is here for APEC.
