Macarthur Park
July 16th, 2007 at 02:27am
Good morning again John,
I have to agree with you about Macarthur Park, it is just dreadful. I could name a heap of other songs that I can't stand, but the one that really stands out is Madonna's "Like A Virgin", which is, in my view, without a doubt the most annoying song ever made.
I have to admit that I was surprised to learn that Donna Summers ever recorded a version of "Macarthur Park", how anyone could make the transition from great songs like "She works hard for the money" to "Macarthur Park" is beyond me.
Regards,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

I agree too, that song makes no sense, who in their right mind would leave a cake out in the rain?
As for Madonna’s Like A Virgin, I don’t think Madonna can remember back that far and she should change the line to: touched for the 999th time, geez.

Here is my worst song top ten.
1. Shaddup Your Face-Joe Dolce.
2. Mickey-Toni Basil.
3. Anything from Barry Manilow, he makes suicide fashionable.
4. The Hampster Dance-Hampton The Hampster.
5. Three Times A Lady-The Commodores, you are flat out finding a lady today who is one time let alone three, making this a nonsense song.
6. Two Little Boys-Rolf Harris, sounds gay today.
7. Anything from The Village People, all copies of Y. M. C. A should be burned ASAP.
8. Born To Be Alive-Patrick Hernandez, I preferred the b side Glad To Be Dead.
9. Shoop Shoop Diddy Wop (Cumma Cumma Wang Dang)-Monte Video And The Cassettes, what the hell did it mean?
10. Down Under-Men At Work, only through overkill this is here and for making Australians look like a stupid race worldwide. The yanks didn’t understand it and thought it was cryptic.

I thought she did “MacArthur park” before “She works hard for the money”
And Tony, how dare you speak ill of “Born to be Alive”. Its possibly the greatest song known to Man.
If God could dance, he would dance to this.

you are right Pen, she did but Richard Harris did a spoken version years before Donna Summer and John Kerr hates it with a passion, can’t say I blame him though.

To each their own as far as Born To be Alive goes Pen.
