Canberra Radio Ratings

July 25th, 2007 at 10:30am

It looks like 2CC are gearing up for the next radio ratings again with their bus advertising starting to appear again. I have spotted one so far, but you can be sure there are more to come.

In some way I’m glad that I spotted the 2CC ad this morning, as the radio ratings period starts again on the 5th of August (and ends on the first of September), and I still have some radio reviews to get through from the last ratings period.

Obviously my radio review plan was a dismal failure as I underestimated the amount of time I would need to get through them. I’m not going to abandon the idea completely though, because I have a new plan which will take me far less time, and probably provide a better comparison between the stations. I still have to work out a few minor details first though, so I’ll give you more information about this at a later date.

In the meantime, the higher priority is finishing those radio reviews from the last ratings period!

Making serious mistakes such as referring to Kerrie Tucker
as the ACT “Labor” candidate certainly won’t help 2CC’s ratings !
(Kerrie Tucker is in fact the GREENS canditate).

I must be missing something… is the aim to ‘win’ the ratings, or to find out what market share you actually have?

I heard that slip up as well, and I also heard your call to 2CC shortly after. I can’t believe you’re still dwelling on it. I’m sorry, John, but it’s time you found another hobby.

Just how correct is the rating system in this country?
I see some of the tv shows that rate high and wonder do people actually have their tv sets turned on to that?
    They must be desperate.
Still it keeps somebody employed so I won’t make waves.

Tim, it’s a combination of both. The main aim is to win (or at least improve) your ratings, but it is also important to find out what market share you have, especially in the various demographics.

Tony, the sample groups are generally quite small, but large enough to be statistically valid. TV ratings in this country are counted electronically which is why the nightly figures are released each morning, whereas radio ratings are counted through a diary system.

Both systems have their benefits and disadvantages, and I’m sure that if I were to go in to detail, within a few weeks this page would be filled with the claims and counter-claims of the proponents of each system.
