Ray Hadley returns to the Footy Show

July 28th, 2005 at 04:32pm

With the extended absence of Paul Vautin due to an injury, Ray Hadley will make a return to Channel Nine’s NRL Footy Show with a guest appearance.

It will be good to have somebody who knows what he is talking about on the Footy Show again, but in my opinion, they should scrap the existing Footy Show and replace it with a new version with the people from 2GB’s Continuous Call Team. It would be much more entertaining and would actually have meaningful discussions about football for a change.

Ray Hadley has no credibility, he does the biggest backflips eg Superleague, he bagged it then wanted to call it. He makes false claims like when he acused Parramatta players of a drunken brawl in 06 when it was proved incorrect, then there as the craig gower fiasco where they both made false stetements. He rearly bags the NRL even though it has many problems because of bad management. What about only one team in brisbane for example?

Phil Gould is channel 9 commentator and he hasnt comprimised the truth in regards to super league in fact a couple of weeks ago he wrote a good article in the sun herald about how there is a conflict of interest the game because news corp half owns the game and it is having an affect on it now. As for the footy show on thursday I think the format could be better, but is it all the commentators fault. As for match analysis I think guys like sterlo, johns and harrigon can go in much more depth on tactics, gould has won premierships. I thought I would respond to add balance to the site

Matthew took the time to send me those comments by email. Personally I think he is wrong…I would agree that Ray Hadley probably has a few more flaws than many other people, but I still think he is a better commentator than any of the Channel Nine commentators.

Just to balance things a bit here…Ray Hadley was not a fan of super league prior to it starting for good reason, however, when half the game moved to Super League, he would have been doing himself and the public a disservice to not call the matches.

Unfortunately rugby league, much like many other sports, involves a lot of high profile people, and that brings with it a whole heap of false claims and rumours. The difference between Hadley and the Hollywood gossip magazines, is that Hadley has to at least believe his information is correct before publishing it…remember, he can be sued for defamation.

I honestly can’t understand why you would want to dilute the talent in Brisbane in to two teams…Queensland has three teams as it is and they seem to be doing fairly well for themselves…don’t forget AFL has a stronger following in Queensland than it does in New South Wales, and the junior talent pool is therefore more diluted up there than it is down here.

I don’t deny that the Channel Nine commentators were good players (those that played) but that doesn’t necessarily produce good commentators. As I said, I think Hadley and the rest of the Continuous Call Team are far better at calling games than the Channel Nine commentators. I don’t expect you to agree with me, and clearly you don’t, but I thank you for your opinion none-the-less.
