Is the Civic Exchange the centre of Internode’s ACT universe?
December 13th, 2009 at 10:31pm
It’s a question I find myself asking, given how the Civic Exchange is missing from the list of exchanges to be affected by Internode’s backhaul provider’s imminent network maintenance.
During the times above customers will experience a lack of data flow and/or authentication for upto 60mins whilst our backhaul provider conducts software upgrades on their network.
The following exchanges will be impacted:
BELCONNEN,BLCN
CRACE,CRCF
DEAKIN,DKIN
GUNGAHLIN,GGHA
KAMBAH,KBAH
LANYON,LNYN
MANUKA,MNKA
MAWSON,MWSN
MELBA,MLBA
MONASH,MNSH
QUEANBEYAN,QNBN
SCULLIN,SCLN
WESTON CREEK,WECK
This makes me wonder if the Civic Exchange (which I am connected to, and have yet to publish photos of), is the only exchange, or one of a very limited number of exchanges, in the ACT to have a direct connection to the rest of the Internode network, and if the rest of the exchanges connect via the “backhaul provider” and the Civic exchange.
This kind of thing, for better or for worse, fascinates me…in much the same way as it would fascinate me to see where my phone line goes within the Civic Exchange.

Hi Simon,
An interestingly puzzling preponderance ’tis the Civic Exchange.
May I ask what sort of b/band up/down speeds your getting, & roughly how far from the exchange might you be?.
And yes, I’m sure you would be fascinated to trace a call from your ‘phone through the exchange.
A long long time ago, in another age & galaxy beginning with “D”, when Lelanche cells powered such monoliths as Carrier Rooms, certain staff peoples would become overly bored.
Obviously the thing to do in such circumstances is to relieve said near-death condition. Application of impish naughtiness was of course the most rapid & best medication.
Usually in the form of simultaneously ‘phoning the same # in Melbourne & Sydney, patching them together before they answered, then plonking them up on the PA.
However, chasing other staff members through the Carrier Room with a bucket of water was deemed very naughty, resulting in life-threatening behaviour of The Boss. Fortunately the rack-uncovered, being cooled sufficiently (just) by pedestal fan didn’t seem to mind too much the application of that bucket of water, as the targeted staffer fled the airborne rapidly approaching aqua fortis.
The consequence was cancellation of all morning & afternoon teas, smiles, smurks & silliness, for a month.
This was before my time,
so,
“It wasn’t my fault!..”.(smile)
