Samuel’s Musicians Of The Week

July 24th, 2007 at 10:03am

This week the award goes to The Beatles (again), mainly due to the fact that the feature song was used to great effect in the tribute WIN Television put together for Peter Leonard. (And yes, for those of you who are wondering, I do have a bunch of things to post here that I haven’t done over the last few days).

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never ever lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

One of my fave songs, In My Life, Bette Midler sings it best, as she did in the 90’s movie For The Boys.

I have probably heard the Bette Midler version at some stage, but I will have to track down a copy of it again and have a proper listen.

To be perfectly honest, a lot of The Beatles’ music irritates me due to the fact that I enjoy listening to music with headphones (and I do mean headphones, not the earplug style things) and an awful lot of their music features an overuse of channel separation. In My Life is OK, but some of the other songs where the vocals are contained entirely in either the left or right channel are rather difficult to listen to with headphones.

Don’t get me wrong…I think The Beatles were a great band and produced some excellent music, it is really the production of the final product that annoys me.
