Crocmedia “AFL Live” webstreams

March 25th, 2010 at 07:24pm

Update April 1, 2013: It seems that Google is still directing people to this page after all this time, despite it being very out-of-date now. Under the current radio rights agreement, Crocmedia’s AFL Live is streamed via afl.com.au and the AFL app. Depending on the day it is either listed as “AFL Live”, “CROC” or “Crocmedia”. On a normal weekend they are calling the Friday night match, the Saturday 1:30pm match, the Saturday 7:30pm match, and the Sunday 3pm match (or on occasion the 1pm match). Additionally they are relaying SEN’s call of the Saturday and Sunday twilight (4:30pm) match, which is interesting as SEN are not taking their first quarter of the Saturday twilight match due to a scheduling conflict, and AFL Live is only taking the 2nd half of the Sunday twilight match due to a scheduling conflict. They also share an AFL post-match show after the Friday and Saturday matches. It’s a surprisingly complicated agreement between AFL Live and SEN, but it is producing fantastic coverage and they should be congratulated.

Long story short. If you’ve landed here looking for the AFL Live webstream, please visit AFL.com.au or open the official AFL app. End Update

I’m hesitant to post this because I’m not convinced that the stations are supposed to be streaming, and I might be shooting myself in the foot by posting this, however…

Both Edge FM and 2AY are streaming Crocmedia’s AFL Live with chief callers Sandy Roberts and Rex Hunt.
Edge FM: http://live.edgefm.com.au:8003/edgefm.ogg
2AY: http://albury.aceradio.com.au:82/broadwave.asx

The Edge FM webstream is of a higher quality, but won’t play in Windows Media Player, whereas 2AY’s webstream will. Try both, see which one works for you. Other stations may be streaming this but I haven’t checked others at this time.

I must say that seeing as I was assured a while back that 2CA would be taking the AFL coverage and I was then corrected by Capital Radio, I am pleased to be able to find this AFL coverage online. If anybody knows of any other stations which are streaming “AFL Live” online, please let me know and I’ll add them to the list.

    Samuel, thanks for posting this.

Just wondering whether you were able to listen to Rex Hunt on AFL Live. I haven’t had the chance to check if it works yet.

I think I read somewhere that AFL Live would also be streamed on 95.5 FM K-Rock – a Geelong Radio station:
    http://www.krock.com.au/streaming.html

On Saturday, I listened to 3MMM, eagerly anticipating what I thought would be Rexy’s grand debut. I was shocked and disgusted at the minuscule role he has been given on that station. Why on earth he moved to 3MMM is beyond me. At least if he had remained at 3AW he could have run the show on Sunday.

For a larger-than-life figure such as Rexy to play 2nd fiddle to a moron such as James Brayshaw was humiliating. He was never allowed to commentate for more than 10 seconds at a stretch. In fact he barely featured at all since it was basically the James Brayshaw – Gary Lyon show. And when Rexy is not in charge his jokes don’t work.

The bottom line is – Rexy is King! But 3MMM have reduced him to the status of Cinderella with the Ugly Sisters.

I found it all so painful I simply had to turn it off. It was frankly unendurable. It is therefore the end of an era for me. All my hopes now hang on AFL Live…..

I missed AFL Live on Sunday (and my teams was playing…how bad is that? I have myself to blame for the Dogs loss) so I didn’t hear Rex on Sunday.

I did hear him on Triple M on Saturday and thought he sounded OK, albeit toned down significantly from his 3AW days. It was a pretty ordinary match but I thought Rex picked up towards the end. I’ll tune in again next week before I make any decisions. The same with AFL Live…Sandy sounds “at home” to me, but as I completely missed Rex, I can’t be entirely sure.

KRock is part of the Grant Broadcasters group, so I suppose that they might be taking AFL Live. I’m not sure though as KROCK have their own deal with the AFL to cover two matches per round including a Cats game using their own commentary team. I would be a tad surprised if they were taking AFL Live as well, but I’ll check it out next weekend for you.

As I suspected, KROCK do not take AFL Live.

Thanks for checking it out Samuel!

I was able to get your first link to work on Friday – so I was really thrilled about that.

I listened to Rexy on 3MMM on Saturday (I couldn’t resist at least checking). He seemed to me to be much more his old self, which I am oh so happy about!

So it’s good news all round……especially if, like me, you’re a Saints supporter!

    It’s my pleasure Sharon.

Alas it looks like Edge FM and 2AY are more regularly fulfilling their obligation to not stream their AFL coverage. 2AY are turning their webstream off during the football, and Edge are replacing it with music. I have noticed that the AFL is faintly audible under Edge’s music, so I suspect that their stream is being fed directly out of the on-air console and the channel separation isn’t quite as good as it should be.

I heard the last hour or so of Rex on 3MMM on Saturday and, I agree, he does sound much more comfortable this week. I’m still hanging out for the fat lady and an “11-11-77 LORD NELSON!”…give him enough time and I reckon he’ll slip them in.

Congratulations to you and the Saints. You had a great win last night (I was *gasp* listening to it on 3AW…Shane McInnes and Tony Leonard are quite acceptable to me). I’m a Doggies supporter and loving every moment of the current match on 3MMM.

Samuel, I am astounded by your technical and practical knowledge of these matters.

At least I can be sure of one thing – if there is any way of tuning in to AFL Live, you will be the one to tell us how!

Congrats on your trouncing of Richmond

I’m scared of the Doggies because we don’t have a full back who can stand up to Barry Hall one on one. If anyone can find the answer though it’s Ross Lyon….. From my wholly impartial standpoint I think the man is a genius. His complete lack of ego machismo reminds me of the Dalai Lama!!

Having said that, I’m still going to need a sedative to calm my nerves before the St KIlda-Collingwood match on Friday!

The Edge FM stream is working today. I suspect that whether it works or not depends on whether the panel operator remembers to disable the stream because I can’t find a pattern to when it does and doesn’t work.

  • 8. sharon  |  April 5th, 2010 at 3:55 pm

yes – working nicely, Than you!

  • 9. sharon  |  April 11th, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Listening to Rex for the first time on AFL Live.

What an absolute treat to hear him running the show again, calling his colleagues “You Idiot”, and performing a full complement of vocal sound effects as per the old days on 3AW. No threats of short-term contracts here thanks to Hutchie so he’s flying free and magnificent!

I am eternally grateful to you for this.

This is your match Hawks v Doggies – so good luck!

Looks like the party is well and truly over so far as accessing AFL Live is concerned….

  • 11. Samuel  |  April 26th, 2010 at 2:52 pm

The Edge FM webstream is working today with Peter Donegan, Hutchy and Liam Pickering, but for the most part I think you’re right Sharon.

It’s almost at the point where I’d consider paying somebody in an AFL Live broadcast area to hook a radio up to their computer and feed it to me over the Internet. Alas funds don’t really permit that at the moment, but I might revisit the idea in a few weeks. I think the biggest sticking point will be finding somebody who is willing to help.
