Samuel’s Persiflage Listener Feedback

With the next episode of Samuel’s Persiflage just around the corner, the deadline for listener feedback is nearly here. But it’s not too late just yet.

Naturally I welcome your feedback to the podcast email address podcast@samuelgordonstewart.com [1]. When sending an email please let me know which name you would like me to refer to you as (if you have a preference), otherwise I will just have to use whatever name is in the email headers. Putting a name at the bottom of your message is probably the easiest way to do this.

I welcome both written and spoken feedback to the podcast email address, but if you’re sending audio could you please send it in either MP3 (preferred), Wave or Ogg Vorbis format and try to keep it under 60 seconds. Audio in other formats will most likely not be accepted, and audio over 60 seconds may require editing.

I accept that sending audio is a pain as you have to record it and save it and attach it and send it, so I have introduced an easier way for you to send audio feedback. Thanks to Odeo [2] I can now offer you a way to send me spoken feedback without leaving your web browser. Clicking on the “send me a voice message” button below will take you to an Odeo page which will allow you to record a message and send it, quickly and easily.
Send Me A Message [3]

One more thing, I received an email from “henry’s porridge” in which he asks

I want to send you audio feedback, do I need a microphone?

I suspect Henry’s Porridge was being silly, but yes Henry’s Porridge, you do need a microphone to send audio feedback…unless you intend on sending me somebody else’s work, which I will not accept or use.

I’ll be drawing the cutoff for feedback tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3PM Canberra time (the weather graphics on the right hand side of the home page [4] should help you work out when that is), so hopefully you will send some feedback, and with any luck you will be on the next episode of Samuel’s Persiflage (due out either on Thursday or Friday).

Being a newcomer to this awesome blog I would like to say that after hearing Chuck’s remarkable recording that invitations should be extended to budding musicians (like Chuck) to provide original music content for your broadcasts Samuel.

I would be willing to record a similarly creative track for use on the Persiflage but a day is too short notice for me this time I fear. How often between sessions Samuel? I can possibly be ready for your next great studio session.

Will you be featuring Chuck’s inventive work?

I won’t be playing Chuck’s song on the upcoming episode of Samuel’s Persiflage, although we have had musical content on there before.

Samuel’s Persiflage is released (usually) monthly.

Hello HMV. There have been discussions on this blog of an SGS tribute album made up of songs compiled by fans of Samuel. Although Samuel has said he can’t be involved due to time restrictions, any musical numbers would be greatly appreciated.

There are currently three tracks completed. All the proceeds of sales will be donated to Samuel for the upkeep of his blog and future episodes of Samuel’s Persiflage.

I’m sure if you send Samuel a copy of your song and then pending approval from Samuel himself, it may make it onto Samuel’s Persiflage.

Good to have you on board HMV. Word of advice. If you view this blog on a Sunday evening, make sure you have a roll of tin foil on hand. Preferably the Black & Gold brand.

Samuel, I’m disappointed you won’t be playing Chuck’s new song. I guess you know your audience best though.
I haven’t heard his old one yet, was it featured on your Persiflage at one time? Perhaps Chuck you can link to the other songs for me to review.

I think that you should reconsider Samuel, I don’t mean to harp on it but a segment featuring new Australian market could fill a hole in the market. Especially very creative music like Chuck’s – does it have a title?

I’ll heed your advice about the tin foil, do I fashion a helmet from it Chuck? Is there something particular about radiation on a Sunday I should be aware of? I’m normally very mindful of radio wave pollution.

I have had the Black & Gold brand tin foil before and find it holds its shape quite well too. Am I able to post pictures Samuel? I can post a picture of a fiend wearing a helmet fashioned from tin foil.

I’ll get right on to the song for the album Chuck. I think it behoves every reader of Samuel’s blog to at least give it a go, no matter how tone deaf they may be. I’m sure Samuel will be pleased with my efforts, I have a modern gramophone which plays 78 rpm recordings with a very high fidelity.

I would love to see a compilation of the songs of the week, sung by Samuel and produced by Chuck.

[5] contained a couple bits of music from various people.

There are a heap of other podcasts already out there to promote modern music…what I would like (from a podcasting point of view anyway) is a law where all music becomes public domain after 30 years…after all most of the music I like is over 30 years old. I suspect that musicians wouldn’t be keen on that, especially the writers of “Rock Around The Clock” who have earned billions of dollars in royalties, and continue to earn more (John B1_B5, do you remember the figure quoted on “On This Day” yesterday?).

You will have to post links to pictures. Put it online somewhere (plenty of free photo services around), and paste the link here. If you want to link to it properly in HTML go right ahead, but just posting the URL should do the trick as WordPress should treat it as a link. Can’t guarantee it will behave though.

(John B1_B5, do you remember the figure quoted on “On This Day” yesterday?).

I don’t remember the amount Samuel, but it was a hell of a lot .

There is only one criteria for a song to make it onto the SGS tribute album and that is it must be about or have something to do with Samuel.

The foil is for viewing episodes of Samuel in Dolgnwot HMV. A hat fashioned from foil is a sensible precaution. Personally, I also have a straight jacket on hand just in case I act on the messages I recieve from Dolgnwot.

I can’t link the other songs because I don’t now where they are. If you listen to Samuel’s Persiflage 2/3 they maybe there in the middle somewhere.

That is a great suggestion Heatseeker. I am more than happy to produce any songs as long as I get to work with Samuel.

What about releasing the SGS Tribute album on vinyl? That way you could play it as 45rpm and check for any messages.

And don’t forget to send a copy to the ‘God Squad’ .

I remember the Chipmunks did great business with their range of records …

#13 Comment By His Masters Voice On May 11, 2006 @ 4:59 am

This is my fiend wearing the Black & Gold helmet. Personally I think it’s going too far though but if you recommend it I will certianly take the precaution.

I don’t think a straight jacket is necessary because I have been completely unable to spot any hidden messages in the Dolgnwot series as yet. But I am going to see the Da Vinci Code next week and perhaps I’ll pick up some clues in interpretation of the symbology.

The idea of an SGS Tribute Album is quite exciting and I have accidentally played your song backwards in all the confusion Chuck. Were you aware there is a hidden message in it? Towards the end (or the beginning if you play it backwards) I could have sworn I heard someone say “The walrus was Paul” or words to that effect. Am I mistaken?

I will get on to my song at once.

The image did not appear so I’ll try agian.

Well this is very disappointing. I will have to do further study Samuel. The html doesn’t seem to be recognised. What tags do you suggest?

One thing I have noticed is that your software has mispelt a couple of my words – the ‘i’ and the ‘a’ have been transposed in the words ‘certainly’ and ‘again’. And I know it wasn’t me, I have recently had my keyboard serviced to correct such mishaps.

If you’re using Firefox, right click on the photo and then click “Copy Image Location” then come to the comments form here and press CTRL-V, which will paste the address of the image here.

In Internet Explorer you can right click on the picture, click on properties, you will see a section called “address”, highlight everything in that section starting with the “http://”, press CTRL-C, come back here and press CTRL-V.

For other web browsers, the process should be similar to one of the above.

My sister works in the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. I’m going to ask her if she can get the whole orchestra to do a rendition of the original persiflage during rehearsal, and tape it.

That would be funny.

#19 Comment By Samuel On May 11, 2006 @ 2:19 pm

It would also be very welcome on Samuel’s Persiflage. I can’t offer sheet music though as the entire thing was ad libbed.

#20 Comment By Chuck A. Spear On May 12, 2006 @ 4:10 am

I can write the score music.

#21 Comment By His Masters Voice On May 12, 2006 @ 5:11 am

I’ll post the link so your multitudinous readership can see the helmet fashioned from Black & Gold foil I will wear at Chuck’s urging. My fiend routinely wears it on all occasions but I don’t have the same paranoia he has. My paranoia is under control.

[6]

I must find out how to show the image on your blog – do you have images turned off for guests posting?

I would love to hear the Persiflage orchestrated. I suspect it would make a rivetting symphony. I do hop you will be able to play my song on your next Persiflage Samuel. If not I hope it will be considered for the Tribute Album. What will it be called?

I’m only new here…
..but I love everything about Samuel’s blog and the ever-changing world of AM radio, not to mention tin-foil helmets.
Keep up the great work SGS.
A great name for your tribute album could be SamPer (from SAMuel’s PERsiflange), or better still, Muel’s Flange from the opposite linguistic extreme.
I like “Mule’sFlange” and I hope you do too.
Peace and God.
