(5) 06:04 104.7 - Evermore never let you go was quite an interesting listen. Scotty and Nige provided some interesting information about the overnight weather and started an answering machine segment (4.5) 06:08 Mix - A good song "This Is Australia", Mark and Lisa mention the overnight weather and then Lisa starts talking about buying herself an early birthday present, tickets to a concert on her birthday with Xavier Rudd and they play a bit of his version of "No Woman No Cry", and then start talking about what he might wear and then get back to talking about buying yourself a birthday present. Then they start "Falling In Love Again. A fairly interesting four minutes. (5) 06:12 2CC - Lee Stevenson talking to Mike Jeffreys about what he (Lee) would do if he met a ghost. Ad break: Sear's Workwear, Strictly Rentals, Canberra Milk, Acttiles (the music is too loud on this ad, it drowns out the vocal component). (3.5) 06:16 2CA - Ad Break: ACT Government ad urging people to update their Medicare address, Foxy's fast photos. Then the excellent mini-series Kremmin Of The Star Corps begins, which is followed by Larry Appley announcing when Kremmin will be repeated and playing Abba's "I do, I do, I do, I do, I do". (5) 06:20 666 - Something about which celebrities should dance with sheep. I thought the ghost thing was strange, but this is just stupid. A caller (Ian) phones in to contribute to the sillyness. Now it all becomes clear, they're trying to start a television show "Danicing with the sheep". Ross Solly then does something sensible by going through the national weather. Sadly the sensibleness is shortlived as Jill rings in to name the sheep show, thankfully the four minutes is up before she mentions a name. (1) 06:24 JJJ - Well this music is just dreadful and takes up all of the four minutes. (0) 06:28 Classic FM - The weather with bird noises in the background. The bird noises continue for a few moments after the weather and then a light piece of classical music which sounds a bit like an imitation of birds starts. I certainly wouldn't choose to start the day to this, but it is almost enjoyable. (2.5) 06:32 NewsRadio - A news story about someone and a dirty bomb followed by finance and an earthquake in Peru. Iraq alliance with BBC news story. A story from Isamabad. New South Wales police to have greater powers against graffiti. Mohammed Haneef's friend Dr. Ali unhappy with his treatment. A number of the stories were cut off early and there was a fair bit of dead air (3) 06:36 ABC RN - Weather. Science with Tim Thwaites from New Scientist Magazine, and the benefits of a good breakfast. Fran Kelly wisely lets Tim explain the story without much interruption. Very well done. (5) 06:40 104.7 - One of the hosts talks about nearly crashing his car the other day. Followed by them acting out a scene from a movie, followed by a traffic report. Ad break: Ginniderra Ponds, ActewAGL, Fernwood Female Fitness Centre. (3.5) 06:44 Mix - Part of a Pauline Hanson interview from (probably) the Today Show, followed by Mark Parton being somewhat saddened that anybody would be willing to vote for her. "Horror Movie" by Skyhooks. (4) 06:48 2CC - Ad Break: Lube Mobile, Bunnings Warehouse, Peter Blackshaw Real Estate, The Salvation Army. Mike Jeffreys presents the news headlines and is then joined by Donna Stanley for the weekly look at the Soap Operas. Mike and Donna get along really well on-air, and the segment works really well as Mike doesn't take the soaps seriously and makes it quite obvious, but still lets Donna provide her soapie insights. (5) 06:52 2CA - The end of "Shilo" by Neil Diamond. Larry Appley plugs the upcoming Neil Diamond concert before running through some events which are coming up this weekend and suggests that he might be taking part in a bike ride around the parliamentary triangle on Sunday (and possibly in disguise just in case he makes a fool of himself). Sam Cooke's "What A Wonderful World This Would Be". (5) 06:56 666 - Ross Solly plays a limerick from a caller about Peter Costello. Apparently it won a competition on the station the other day. He then plays a Johnny Cash song "Ghost Riders In The Sky". I must say that it is a pleasant surprise to hear a decent song on this station, albeit a poor recording of a good song (apparently from a newly released "lost" performance). (4) 07:00 JJJ - JJJ News, India nuclear deal, Peru earthquake, Iraq political alliance, Dr. Mohammed Ali flies to India, Mutujulu Industrial Relations, Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, Sport: Tennis. Promo for some music they will play tomorrow night...Scott Dooly filling in for the normal hosts, and plays some really awful music. The top of the hour news was only three minutes and rushed through the stories, and the breakfast host sounded like he was still asleep. (1.5) 07:04 Classic FM - News: Dr. Ali leaves the country, workers return to work at Canberra timber mill, another influenza death. Gathering in Memphis to mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. Tim Gabel with Sport: Tennis, NRL. Good news bulletin. (5) 07:08 NewsRadio - 30th Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, finance (he should really stop ad-libbing and just read the script, he would make more sense that way). Karen Meldrum with sport: Tennis, golf. Quite comprehensive (4.5) 07:12 ABC RN - AM Program: Multiple finance stories, Very well done except for some obvious edits in an interview and the interviewer sounding very scripted. Surely if you interview someone for such a program you wouldn't edit their answers? (4) 07:16 104.7 - Ad Break: Clark Rubber. Promo for Ad Free 50s from 9am. The backing music for this song is good, but the singing isn't particularly good, I don't know what the title of the song is, and quite frankly I don't want to know. (2) 07:20 Mix - Traffic report, rather well done. Weather report, followed by Mark and Lisa talking about Australian Idol and playing a song, although I'm not entirely convinced that it's music, it is an awful lot better than what I heard on 104.7 a few minutes ago. (3.5) 07:24 2CC - Mike Jeffreys talking with 2GB News Director Jason Morrision about Pauline Hanson, the credit card surcharge (and some sneaky methods used to increase the surcharge by using rounding, plus the ACCC saying "shop elsewhere" as a solution). Interesting and insightful conversation. (5) 07:28 2CA - Ad Break: Rebel Sport, Ultimate Tunes, Marnia on Flemington Furniture, AllHomes.com.au, O'Rourke's Firewood. 2CA Capital Radio News with Jane Turner: Temperature and brief weather, South Australian health worker dies from Influenza, Uranium deal with India, Hunt for killer underway, warning from federal government about email claiming migrants earn more than pensioners. (missed a story here) Overseas hurricane strengthens, land development joint venture, Independent property group wins award. Clear and concise without rushing. (5) 07:32 666 - Ross Solly talking with Tim Gabel about some sport stories (including Ross saying that sport doesn't need any sponsorships, much to the horror of Tim). They then run through their NRL tips. These two make pretty boring listening when you put them together. (2) 07:36 JJJ - Well this is a song where the lead singer is incapable of singing. The presenter back announces the song (and still sounds like he is asleep). Intro for someone from JTV...it's one of the more disgusting intros ever produced. Presenters accuse the actors in the Business Council of Australia's workplace relations ads of "roughing up" employees and taking drugs, in particular ice, the presenters repeatedly use some fairly crude language. (0) 07:40 Classic FM - This is fairly relaxing after the nonsense I just put up with on JJJ (4). 07:44 NewsRadio - Sport: AFL, Cricket. Timecall with main presenter Glen Bartholemew. Headlines: Finance, uranium to India, Peru earthquake. Politics with the Ten Network's political editor Paul Bongiorno. Very good. (5) 07:48 ABC RN - Promo for comedy show on Sunday night. Fran Kelly talks about the stoush over council amalgamations in Queensland and interviews multiple involved people about it. Fran handles this very well. (5) 07:52 104.7 - Presenters make derogatory comments about celebrities involved in celebrity "news" stories, and question security procedures at airports. They come across as not being very bright. The female presenter mostly keeps out of the silly dumb comments. Well done to her for that. Promo for "hookup house" competition. (1) 07:56 Mix - I'm not keen on this song, but Mix are doing quite well this morning due to the fact that it is a relief to get away from 104.7 and they are doing a much better job than 104.7. Mark and Lisa start talking about how everything is Lisa's and preview an upcoming conversation with a local politician who thinks Elvis is overrated. Promo for a $10,000 holiday giveaway. (4) 08:00 2CC - News with Jane Turner: US Stock Market recovers slightly (report), Australian sharemarket expected to gain, Dr. Ali goes to India, Kevin Rudd says he will cancel any Uranium deal with India, Melbourne Police charge 7th man over murder, coronial inquest findings into Lockhart river crash due today, Peru earthquake, (missed story), Schapelle Corby's sentence could be reduced today (report), AIS under fire for promoting Gatorade. Another good news bulletin from the Capital Radio Network (5) 08:04 2CA - Sport with Jane Turner: Golf, (possible missed story) NRL, Swimming, Tennis, Local Netball. Traffic with Mike Frame from the plane...I can barely understand a word of it, ski report, weather with Larry Appley. 2CA ID. "Love will keep us together". (4.5) 08:08 666 - AM Program, and it's the edited interview I noted during the 07:12 Radio National report, Tony Eastley talks to the business editor about various bits of finance news. Tony insists that it's too early to say whether there will be any political fallout from the council amalgamations in Queensland (certainly not what Radio National were reporting). That bit of the AM Program wasn't as good as the bit I heard on Radio National earlier. (2) 08:12 JJJ - And the bad music keeps flowing on JJJ. The presenter has finally woken up so that he can interview some British musicians. The talk was certainly better than the horrid music. (3) 08:16 Classic FM - Very relaxing music, but not really suited to breakfast. Presenter John Clarke back announces the last two pieces. Promo for an upcoming concert which will be broadcast on Classic FM. This music is much more up-tempo and suitable for breakfast. (3) 08:20 NewsRadio - Finance again, surely there is other news which deserves in depth coverage this morning. Finally other news, ALP attacks Fairness Test component of industrial relations laws...a good interview which hasn't been edited (AM Program, learn a thing or two from NewsRadio please). (4) 08:24 ABC RN - Melbourne as a restaurant town, and apparently good for Sushi. Back to council amalgamations and further quotes on the issue from people who were involved in similar reforms in Victoria when Jeff Kennett was premier. Newspaper Headlines. Radio National are doing very well this morning, although I'm not entirely sure how close the first story came to advertising on the ABC. (4) 08:28 104.7 - End of a segment. Ad Break: Promo for "celebrity hookup" competition, Australian Technical Colleges, Cusacks Furnture, Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, ACT Government asking people to update their Medicare address. Fuller Brothers Body Workers, Harvey Norman 8:30 ad (at 8:31). Traffic Report just about to start. Minimal content but decent ad break. (2) 08:32 Mix - News: Peru Earthquake, Man faces charges for uploading Simpsons Movie to Internet. 40 Hour Famine to Begin. Kath and Kim returns to screen. Sport: (missed story), Ian Thorpe drug test, NRL. Community switch. Weather. Very good traffic report. Mark and Lisa poke fun at Pauline Hanson by using her quotes out of context in a poor effort to promote a competition. (2) 08:36 2CC - Senator Natasha Stott Despoja talks to Mike Jeffreys about the National Access Card and the concerns the Democrats have about it. An interesting discussion. (5) 08:40 2CA - Larry Appley talking to Lincoln Widders from the Canberra Raiders about the upcoming NRL round. NRL tips here, and it is much more interesting that 666's attempt at NRL tips earlier this morning. 2CA "best music of all time" ID. Ad Break: Harvey Norman, Dial An Angel, Rebel Sport, Rivoland Tiles (with Mike Jeffreys). Quite entertaining (4.5) 08:44 666 - And 666 return to their usual bad taste in music...they should have stuck with Willie Nelson. And now they're back to talking about "Dancing With The Sheep". Ross Solly decised to waste his interview time with ACT Senators Gary Humphries and Kate Lundy on the silly sheep show. Then moves on to the topic of donations to politicians and tries to interrupt answers before they even get a chance to properly answer, and then lets the guests answer. (2) 08:48 JJJ - Presenters discussing stupid things they did as teenagers and treating it as if it was somewhat clever. Clearly oblivious to how much influsence they have over their young audience and how much damage they are now indirectly responsible for this weekend. They start an "unearthed" song. The title isn't very inspiring but it does quite well without and lyrics getting in the way. (2) 08:52 Classic FM - A relatively up-tempo piece, but I do have to wonder how anyone can listen to Classic FM for an extended period of time over breakfast...it's just not a breakfast station. (1.5) 08:56 NewsRadio - Detailed report about the Peru earthquake. A story about the 5th annual tango world championships in Argentina. National traffic report with Paul Latter from ATN. Interesting, but I think a break for local traffic without the rest of the country would be better.
