Jim Ball one step closer to a 2GB return

Jim Ball’s return to 2GB overnights has been delayed a few times now for a couple reasons, but is now looking much closer as David Oldfield’s profile has finally disappeared from the 2GB website. Mike Williams is filling-in for the moment, and we should see Jim Ball on the air soon. Whether it will be this week or next week is anyone’s guess, but at this stage Monday looks to be the most likely date.

How did you feel about Oldfield, Samuel?

I didn’t mind him in the end; really grew on me.

David seemed quite intelligent to me and I liked the bits I heard, but I think he would be more suited to a daytime position (don’t ask me to make sense of whether that’s the plan for him…just as many people are saying it is, as there are people saying it isn’t). My only gripe was that he was a bit too sedated for my liking every time I tuned in…I have a problem with overnight presenters being sedated as, if I’m listening overnight, I want to be kept awake.

Jim Ball has his moments of this as well, but it didn’t seem as regular.

Some minor clarifications to the article. Monday is a public holiday, so Tuesday is the likely date for Jim’s start.

I received a nasty email overnight about my use of the word “finally” in relation to David’s departure. The use of “finally” was not to indicate pleasure over David’s departure, but to signify that this has been dragging on for weeks and it’s nice to see some movement. I’m still surprised that David took his planned leave on Friday as the Yes Minister phrase “one day you’re out of your office, the next day you’re out of office” is just as relevant in radio as it is in politics.

HI

David was not on a contract with 2GB since last year so they could let him go at any time. Jim Ball – can leave him most of the time.
Cheers
