Fairfax Syndication Outage Ocean flow models wrong: climate change models further flawed

A slight change of plans for the week

May 16th, 2009 at 02:59pm

There has been a change of plans for the coming week. I was going to be producing and presenting the local news on 2QN and Classic Rock, however this is no longer the case. Instead, due to a staff illness, another fill-in journalist will present and produce the local news, and I will be hosting breakfast on 2QN.

I have to admit that I am a tad excited as this is my first on-air shift in commercial radio. This should be fun.

At this stage I’m not sure if I will be posting news headlines on this blog.

A really big, wholehearted, sincere congratulations to you, Samuel. Things seem to be progressing along really well, and really quickly, for you! This is awesome!

    Many thanks indeed Davky.

I hope it goes well for you Samuel. You are Countrylinking I see. Are you catching the train to Albury? If so, I could have met you at you-know-where. But you’d be well on your way now.

I’ve been meaning to ask you: what will you be playing as your theme for the breakfast show?

    Negative, no train to Albury.

Bus from Canberra City to Yass Junction, train from Yass Junction to Wagga Wagga, bus from Wagga Wagga to Deniliquin (via far too many other places for my liking). All up, about seven and a half hours.

The journey back will be less endearing as I have to go to Albury for some reason which makes more sense to Countrylink than me. Bus from Deni to Albury, train from Albury to Yass Junction, bus from Yass Junction to Canberra City. Nine and a half hours.

Thankfully about four hours of this will be on a train…but what I don’t understand is why Deni, which has a train track running through it, can’t have a train service. I would be more than happy to accept the extra time involved in travelling via Goulburn on a train…the extended periods of time on buses irk me.

Of course I’d prefer to drive, but it’s a bit hard to do that without access to a car.

Incidentally there is virtually no layover time between the various legs of the journey, so a meet up wouldn’t have worked anyway. Nice thought though.

OK, just checked the map and the railway line in to Deniliquin is actually part of the V/Line network, so a trip via train to Deniliquin from Canberra would have to go via Goulburn, Albury and various parts of Victoria. That said, I’d be happy to take the extra time if it meant there weren’t any long bus trips.

Here’s one I don’t understand…V/Line don’t run a train service to Deniliquin. The train terminates in Echuca! The masses of underutilised (or unutilised) railway in this country astounds me.

Sorry Padders, missed one of your questions. No these music unfortunately.

Every other time I’ve been down here the theme music for breakfast has effectively been the Harvey Norman music as they were sponsoring the show and had a bunch of ten-second IDs.

I was going to quite happily use the IDs, but as there is no theme music for the show normally, I’m not going to alter the format by having a theme of my own. If Dixie had his own theme, then I’d be happy to bring my own theme with me…but I haven’t decided for hypothetical purposes what song I would use.
