Impersonating Police

August 1st, 2007 at 09:29pm

Good evening Stuart,

I think the important thing to remember when it comes to unmarked police vehicles is that it is actually a criminal offence to impersonate a police officer, and as such, if somebody is pulled over by somebody pretending to be a police officer, they should ring the police and report it. When it comes down to the crunch, a real police officer isn't going to mind if you call a police station to check that they do work there.

Regards,

    Sam,
Forgive me, but I must have missed the radio banter that attracted your comments.
Could you please tell me what comments you are responding to? Have you been approached by a spurious plodder in Canberra?

A caller came to the conclusion that we shouldn’t have any unmarked police cars because it makes it easier for people with bad intentions to pretend to be police.

Specifically the caller was worried that 17 and 18 year old females were too vulnerable as long as there are unmarked police cars.

Stuart Bocking tried to convince the caller that unmarked police cars are a good thing, but the caller wasn’t interested, and I was just throwing in my two cents.

Personally I think having a balance of marked and unmarked police vehicles is a good thing, especially when I read stories like this one. That driver probably got a well deserved fright when the unmarked car suddenly started flashing red and blue lights at him after he allegedly sped past at 190km/h. (I say allegedly because I don’t know if this case has been before a court yet)

Roxanne, you don’t have to put on the red light
    Those days are over
You don’t have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne, you don’t have to wear that dress tonight
    Walk the streets for money
You don’t care if it’s wrong or if it’s right

Oh hang on…I’ve misunderstood the topic.

Doesn’t matter, it is strangely appropriate for more than one reason.
