Samuel’s Blog Weekly Poll: Troops in Iraq

We’re back to the serious polls this week after the fun we had last week…and this week’s poll is a very serious question.

Feel free to discuss the poll subject in the comments below. You need to be a registered member of Samuel’s Blog to comment, but anyone can vote. The system will attempt to prevent you from voting more than once, and whilst it might not always be able to do that, I request that you only vote once.

Disclaimer: This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you’re using these numbers to do anything important, you’re insane. That being said, I do try to keep the results fair and accurate, and I try to prevent abuse by unscrupulous voters, but I can’t make any guarantees.

Now for the results from last week’s poll.

If you were a tennis ball, would you rather…

Plenty of fun, and an almost even response!

I voted “no” because I don’t think he did. A year agao I probably would have supported sending more troops but I think we have now reached a point where this conflict is un-winnable, and sending more troops is untenable and paramount to murder. I think about the only option left is to get out…

I’m not suggesting a sudden complete withdrawal, but how about 80% or thereabouts, with any luck the lack of troops would make the insurgents stop fighting the troops, and force the country to sort out its own issues. We have tried and failed to fix the Iraq mess, and the only way to sort it out is to let the Iraqis sort themselves out.

Thinking that they can manage that on their own is also a tad optimistic, so I suggest a solid timeline. After the 80% withdrawal, we withdraw another 5% every month, that way we would be out four months after the first withdrawal. Then we can give the Iraqis a six month deadline to sort themselves out, if they fair then we build a wall around Iraq, once it’s up, anyone can go in, nobody can come out until Iraq has been sorted. That gives refugees enough time to get out, and idiots can stay behind to fight each other.

Did I mention “no weapons allowed to leave Iraq” once wall building starts?

I voted no. I don’t know what the answer is and I’m hardly an expert in the field but I don’t think sentencing more young Americans to death is the answer.
A death sentence? Maybe that’s too harsh, you get the gist.

I get the drift, but I’d call it a voluntary death sentence…to the best of my knowledge people don’t join the military for the fun of it and the US haven’t reintroduced conscription.

But yes, I get your point and agree with you Jey.
