Disclaimer: This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you’re using these numbers to do anything important, you’re insane. That being said, I do try to keep the results fair and accurate, and I try to prevent abuse by unscrupulous voters, but I can’t make any guarantees.

I have to admit that I didn’t expect the results to be anywhere near as close as they were, but I suppose that shows just how tricky the issue really is.

With the exception of genuine refugees, there is an immigration system in place…use it if you want to come in to the country, otherwise keep out.

the numbers don’t seem to add up on these polls.
the vast majority of asylum seekers who we lock up are eventually found to be genuine refugees and allwed to stay.
therefore it is a terrible waste of money to persist with locking them up.

Well Yes is 87%, No is 80% (but looks bigger on the bar graph) and partially is 2% (i’m sure it was 4% yesterday). And 27 people voted. It doesn’t add up to 100%, and the bar graph is way off.
On the asylum seekers I’m sure I’ve heard that over 90% are found to be genuine refugees and allowed to stay – and we then have to fork out on medical treatment for the depression and stress disorders they have developed after being locked up for years – not to mention the cost of the actual detention centres. It is a crazy system – as well as being a cruel one.

Well that’s got me beat Seepi because what I see on the graph is:

I think the numbers are sitting on top of each other. I’m only seeing 89% etc, not the (20 votes) bit. Probably why everything is looking like an 8. The numbers do look a bit funny/blocky.

What browser and operating system are you using seepi?
What should be happening is the number of votes appears on the graph by default, and the percentages appear when your mouse is hovering over the graph.

Just checked in Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP and it does render very strangely. The radio buttons have funny squares around them, and the text wraps according to the width of the graph of the bar…and you can’t get back to the vote screen after clicking on results. IE reports an “unknown runtime error”
Trouble is, the whole thing is standards compliant and works properly in Firefox.
Anybody else having issues with it on different browsers and platforms? I don’t currently have Opera installed, and don’t have access to a Mac, so I would be very interested to hear from people using those systems.
