Autocue fails on Win News

I was just watching the first few stories on Win News Late Edition and it looks like the autocue has failed at Win Television’s Kingston studios. From the moment the bulletin started, Peter leonard was constantly switching between looking at the camera and reading from the desk. To Peter’s credit, he clearly pre-read the bulletin and had memorised a fair bit of it. Well done Peter.

Hopefully Win get the autocue fixed soon.

Those autocue’s tend to play up from time to time.

I remember when WIN first started transmitting into Canberra in 1989. They called it ‘aggregation’ (Mike Frame calls it ‘aggrevation’ , haha).

The original newsreader was Peter Russell, and he was (suddenly) replaced by Peter Leonard, who has been there ever since, along with Phil Small, the Sports person.

Word ‘on the street’ at the time was that Pete Russell went on holidays, and when he got back, he found Pete Leonard sitting in his chair.
I wouldn’t give that too much credence because it’s only speculation.

And down the road at Prime studios, the original newsreader was John Bok. One of the part-time newsreaders at Prime was Sandra Sully. I remember her doing a local newspiece on (the late) Bill Gold’s Burly Griffin Memorial, and that was in 1990.
Anyway, that’s all history now. PRIME did away with their local news years ago, leaving WIN with the monopoly (in the commercial sector).
The ABC re-introduced their local TV news a couple of years ago, but it comes from a studio in the new Parliament House, not the original TV studio at Northbourne Avenue.
