John, I’ve assigned different types & sizes of coffee drinks a different “point” value to provide a slightly more accurate picture of the amount of coffee I drink. I provide the itemised list so that you can draw your own conclusions as well.

Sam, how about giving a mark out of 10 for the quality and level of enjoyment for each cup as well?

Not at this stage wonko, but it is a good idea and one I may consider for the future.

Maybe also a bar graph showing intake on a monthly basis to see if you can plot any trends.

How many spoons of coffee do you generally put in your cup? This should also warrant a mention, too.

You would be in trouble if you lived here in Japan, Sam. On every street corner there’s a vending machine selling an astonishing array of cans of coffee, from Tanzanian Blue chilled Cafe Au Lait to Boss Big Black Cylinders, in hot or cold if you don’t mind.

It’s difficult to resist the temptation to slip a few yen into the machine every time you walk past. Nattie would enjoy the frequent stops to have a sniff around though. Seeing as its quite legal to take a pee in the street here, there would be all manner of aromas for her to enjoy.

So how about the pie chart, anyway?

Thanks Chuck, I’ve missed Sam’s site a lot and all the regular readers. I recently enjoyed a few day’s holiday in the northern island of Hokkaido.

Hokkaidians make a wonderful selection of cheeses and are world renowned for their beef, and of course, the prodigious amounts of snow that falls during winter. About 100 people every year die during winter by being buried in the snow, often while trying to scrape it from the roofs of their wooden shanties.

I enjoyed a few days solitude reading some Kafka by the fire in my mountain log cabin, sometimes taking the air to shoot a little pheasant. I had a great opportunity at bagging myself a rare white snow onyx, but it took fright at my rather loudly patterned three-piece tweed suit and flatcap, and took fright once I hove into view. No matter, my Weatherby .233 bird arm would have been useless against such a beast, and it was magnificent to see it galloping off through the snow-covered pines.

But enough about my absence, and back to coffee. Dreadfully off-topic I’m sure, and of questionable relevancy, and I humbly submit it be stricken from the hansard.

Thank you Chuck, I just try my best to perhaps inspire Sam to polish this gleaming diamonte of a site to an even more lustrous glow, although I am first to admit it probably is not possible.

Alas, no, the new site is not quite ready yet. I have been wintering in Hokkaido, doing a spot of pheasant shooting, reading in my secluded log cabin, supping on fresh-caught game and basically catching up on some R&R, and as such haven’t had the time to do much computing. I missed Sam’s site and was even considering hitching the trap to the donkey and riding into town to an internet cafe so I could catch up on all the latest, but the snow was too deep and I had to wait until the spring thaws to journeh back to civilisation.

Sam, are you a perculated, drip-filter, stovetop or plunger man?

I had a feeling that I had talked about my home coffee source previously, and after some searching have found it in ^[1] (not that I expect you to search through the 2,530 comments on this blog) where I said “My main coffee source is an ^[2]”

I’m sorry about the twin similar posts there two, the first languished for some hours in quarantine while Sam gave it the once-over, to make sure there was no intemperate remarks, and assuming it was lost in the ether I composed another entry along the lines of the first. So sorry if I repeated repeating myself.

I got a cappuncino machine as a present once, but it took so much effort to clean that I submitted and bent over to the plunge of a long black one whenever I feel the need for a quickie before work.

Yes, the moderated comment was submitted a few minutes after I went through the comments in my email, and it was a few hours before I went near a computer again.

Thanks for the update Sam, I will learn the virtue of patience in the future and not come out of the whole affair looking like a royal spatchcock.

Do you moderate all comments? That must take a lot of time and work. Or are some forum users put on a blacklist and subjected to surveillence?
