Underground Cabling

This morning, as Nattie and myself went for our morning walk, we spotted some rather interesting work being carried out. The work seemed to involve new underground cabling and large orange conduit.

After our walk, I returned to the scene with a camera and took these photos of the action, by this time the sun was high, and the road was bright.

Underground cabling

Lots of orange conduit

“This morning, as Nattie and myself went for our morning walk…”

Samuel, this is incorrect English. It should be:

“This morning, as Nattie and I went for our morning walk…”

To test this, omit Nattie from the sentence and then the sentence is:

“This morning, as myself went for our morning walk…”

“Myself” is just an old-fashioned affectation.

Good photos.

I’ll take your word for that cunninglinguist. It’s funny the way english is taught in schools, they seem to spend half their time teaching you to use “I”, and the other half of the time teaching you not to use “I”. No wonder I was confused.

If they had taught me your method of “omit (word) from the sentence”, I wouldn’t have made the error.

Thanks for the tip cunninglinguist…what’s that old saying? “You learn something new every day”?

Does anyone like the new reflex, prison theme ad, just while cables are the topic.

#5 Comment By Chuck Berry On February 3, 2006 @ 9:25 pm

Just layed a cable except it was not orange. KPP, I would get used to prison theme. It could be ok though because I hear you are issued with a personal transistor radio.

Correction to my previous post. I meant to use the verb ‘laid’ and not the imaginary word ‘layed’.

actually, when it comes to correct english…is cunninglinguist correct english, or should we use the word it’s meant to describe?

Funny…they used the SAME word in “Smallville” a while ago…”Cunninglinguist”…and I cracked up laughing. Its’ amazing what they get away with on a g-rated or pg-rated show these days.

Hmmm…this is all obviously a Freudian Slurp!

#12 Comment By Chuck Berry On February 4, 2006 @ 1:03 am

I believe KPP that this is why ‘Caractacus Potts’ alter ego ‘Penis Van Lesbian’ changed his name to ‘Dick Van Dyke’.

This post is not intended to be offensive.

#13 Comment By demented_cupcake On February 4, 2006 @ 1:07 am

Definately a Freudian Slurp, for sure

#14 Comment By Samuel On February 4, 2006 @ 12:57 pm

Actually Chuck, that is false, Dick Van Dyke’s real name was “Richard Wayne Van Dyke”. The story you told is actually a myth that just keeps circulating.

#15 Comment By Chuck Berry On February 4, 2006 @ 1:56 pm

Not a myth. His publicist debunks this myth to save his ‘biggest star’ from the obvious embarassment. I also think people get him confused with ‘Rip Van Winkle’ who in turn gets confused with ‘Rip Torn’.

That is some champagne cable laying – quality work … some of the best I’ve seen since the Fitzroy Lions end of season trip to Bali in 1996 …

But those guys were amateurs compared to these cable layers.

Kooky if you going to inform people on the blog about when John Kerr discussed the 1919 bubble song don’t be so careless about the time. I was also listening ,and it was at 2:43am not 2:41am!!!
At 2:41 it was still cockbirds, looking was more yummy raw.

Clocks in domestic environments tend to be “out” from the actual time by up to five minutes either side. For example, if it is 10am, domestic clocks will tend to waver from 9:55-10:05.

Therefore, I don’t think it is a huge concern if somebody is 2 minutes out from the actual broadcast time.

Samual, the trouble with Flakey is that she’s a blonde…and you know they can’t tell time properly.

i really miss john kerr weeknights, I am concerned for Brian Wiltshire those personal threats not good

#25 Comment By Samuel On February 7, 2006 @ 11:14 pm

Yes, I miss John Kerr as well, although I do take comfort from the fact that he is still on at the weekend. I am starting to get used to Stuart Bocking’s show, and I gave him a call this morning at about 3:30 (it was after 4am when I got on the air though). I wonder what happened to Anastasia, the young lady who used to be the producer for that show…is she just on holidays? Or has she left 2UE? I will have to try and find out.

Having heard Brian’s comments that apparently sparked the personal threats, I would have to say he probably brought them upon himself to some extent, although threats were uncalled for. I strongly suspect and hope that the comments by Brian which have been bounced around the news services in the last 24 hours were taken out of context, which happens so often with talkback radio. If they weren’t taken out of context…well it was a very silly thing to say.

For those wondering, the comments from Brian Wilshire which have made their way around the media lately stated that muslims are inbred…I get the distinct impression that these comments were taken out of context…I certainly hope they were, as I would hate to think that a public figure would make such statements.

Yes if we can remember Ron Casey and his firey ways those comments were wrong on talkback also.

I like Stuart Bocking he is rather good to listen to.

I love how all the listners who call/Email John Kerr on Saturday and Sunday mornings praise him and give him the credit he deserves.
Such a broad range of listeners too young and old different origins, lovely.
