Mike Jeffreys Returns on Monday

January 14th, 2006 at 04:00pm

Mike Jeffreys returns to the 2CC Breakfast show on Monday morning at 5:35am (assuming I’ve calculated the length of the news correctly).

Contrary to my dreams, there have been no reports of Mike’s regular guests hiding in cupboards in department stores, but I may ring him to tell him about this dream anyway.

Ever since Mike went on leave, 2CC has been mildly odd, with Mike Welsh, Leigh Zaghet and Mike Frame all spending time on Breakfast. Drive hasn’t been any better, with Mike Frame, Steve Liebmann (yep, a 2UE feed on public holidays), Leight Zaghet all taking turns at hosting it, thankfully Mike Frame has already returned to that show.

Mike Frame has been referring to himself, Welshy and Jeffreys as “The Three Omegos”, but I did hear him use my suggestion of “The Three O-Mike-Os” the other day, I do hope my occasional lunacy is helping 2CC in some way.

I did notice that they appear to be rebranding themselves as “your talk radio”, I wonder if Mike Jeffreys will start introducing traffic reports with “2CC traffic thanks to the Mitsubishi 380, here’s your Andrew Pye”, or perhaps Kevin Woole will become “Your wolfman with your sport”. I quite like that last one…

How will he able to present a breakfast show and still fulifill his duties as Governor General? Is it ethical for him to take this job and also hold a vice regal role? Will he be giving his wages to charity? Alll that said, I think he’s more a “man of the people” than Peter Hollingworth ever was, and I will be tuning in!

Interestingly, a lot of people think that the Governor General’s last name is spelled “Jeffreys” when it is in fact spelled “Jeffrey”. Mike Jeffreys (2CC Breakfast Host) has mentioned before that when he Googles for himself he finds people blaming him for things the Governor General has done. They are different people, but lots of people get them confused, which is quite entertaining!

I didn’t realise they were two people … as a radio celebrity of some stature, I think Mike Jeffreys should sue the Governor General for using a name which is eerily similar to his. I think it’s just a vice regal attempt to cash in on his publicity in the wake of the Hollingworth debacle!

I wonder if people who disagree with the radio presenter write angry letters to the Governor General?

And wasn’t it John Kerr who sacked Gough Whitlam? Do all ex Governor Generals get their own talkback show as part of their retirement package?

Yes, as do some self-appointed ambassadors. John Laws is the self-appointed ambassador of Hamilton Island…
