Samuel’s Musician Of The Week

This weeks award goes to Merle Haggard and the feature song for the week is “The Fighting Side Of Me”

I hear people talkin’ bad
About the way they have to live here, in this country
Harpin’ on the wars we fight
An’ gripin’ ’bout the way things oughta be

An’ I don’t mind ’em switchin’ sides an’
Standin’ up for things they believe in
But when they’re runnin’ down our country, man
They’re walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me

They’re, walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me
Runnin’ down the our of life
Our fightin’ men have fought and died to keep

If you don’t love it, leave it
Let this song that I’m singin’ be a warnin’
When you’re runnin’ down our country horse
You’re walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me

I read about some squirrely guy
Who claims, that he just don’t believe in fightin’
And I wonder just how long
The rest of us can count on bein’ free

They love our milk an’ honey
But they preach about some other way, of livin’
And when they’re runnin’ down our country, man
They’re walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me

They’re, walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me
Runnin’ down our way of life
Our fightin’ men have fought and died to keep

If you don’t love it, leave it
Let this song that I’m singin’ be a warnin’
When you’re runnin’ our my country, man
You’re walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me

You’re, walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me
Runnin’ down our way of life
Our fightin’ men have fought and died to keep

If you don’t love it, leave it
Let this song that I’m singin’ be a warnin’
When you’re runnin’ down our country horse
You’re walkin’ on the fightin’ side of me

Hmmm… interesting choice. Merle certainly seems to have something to say with this song.

Yes, he does. I can’t say I ever really heard the lyrics properly before, it was always the tune of that song I heard. None the less, interesting song, he must have been very passionate.
