Survey 2 for Canberra Radio has been released, with FM 104.7 taking top spot from Mix 106.3, both 666 ABC Canberra and 2CC recorded losses, as did 2CA and radio national. The general trend was a loss across the AM band and gains on the FM band, which isn’t exactly what I wanted to see, but it is interesting none the less.
I’ll wait for Nielsen to release the full details before running a more comprehensive story on the issue.

I just listen to what I want ….. and that includes all FM stations OUT !

FM stations are boring, have poor coverage, hard to tune in, and are virtually useless in a mobile car radio.

Well you are certainly right in saying that AM stations tend to have more interesting programming, that is because AM stations have a higher percentage of talk shows than FM.
It is interesting that News Radio switched to FM, but they are really only designed for 15 minute segments anyway, they do seem to expect people to only listen for a short period of time.
Still, I prefer the good conversational talk stations like 2CC.

A few months ago, they took over the old SSS frequency of 103.9MHz
They ran a “We’re moving to this frequency” message on 103.9 for a couple weeks before moving, as well as a “we won’t be on this frequency much longer” message on 1440 (the old News Radio AM Frequency). When they moved they ran a “We’re not on this frequency any more” message for a bit over a week on 1440 before turning off the AM transmitter.
I can’t find an exact date for the change over, but it was somewhere between the middle of June and early July.
According to News Radio 1440khz on it’s current operating
conditions wasn’t providing an adequate grade of service to some of its’ licence area.

Oh really ……no wonder I couldn’t hear NR on AM any more !
This is good news for “Broadcast Australia” staff looking after the Gungahlin tramsmitting site ………they don’t have to worry about that old 2KW AM transmitter that was being used to transmit News Radio and Parliament (when it was sitting ) .
For me, it will mean I won’t be listening to News Radio …. ever again !

Too right John. Radio programs should be boycotted based soley on which band it is broadcast on!
