Actually, Supabarn is no longer supplied by Metcash (IGA) NSW anymore. supabarn and supabarn express are getting groceries from Queensland warehouse SPAR. you may have seen some of the other SPAR branded stores in Canberra.

This will also be the case for Watson Supabarn express. Black and Gold and IGA brands will not be available there soon and there will also be a reduced range of groceries on the shelf similar to when it turned into a Shop Rite not to many years ago.

When Supabarn tried to outbid Metcash (IGA) in purchasing the Franklins stores it left them in a situation where they believed they could be better off starting their own self supplied store structure. that is where we are now.

Either way, Watson (run independently by Andy, great operator) is a well run store and will not do anything to negatively effect its customers but there may be a teething period. If you don't like what you are offered then you should let them know so they can do something about it. That is how an independent business survives by listening to its customers.

That's a good point about the IGA frozen meals which, I have to admit, are surprisingly good.

It will be interesting to see what changes take place and how the changes are received by customers.

I was wondering exactly what the brand would be when I went to it on Monday. Don't recall the signs being up then.

Good to see Supabarn expanding a bit. Will be interesting to see what happens in the future with these stores. Hopefully Watson will end up being a better store than it currently is (although shame that the IGA frozen meals will most likely go). I see Florey is the only other ACT store listed on the Supabarn site (Watson isn't listed yet)

I'm considering it still Kelly, but university life is not something that mixes well with me. If I can get in, learn what needs to be learned, and get out, then it's fine, but ultimately the social and political atmosphere of most universities is incredibly off-putting to me.

I may very well be putting myself at a disadvantage by taking this stance (which was learned the hard way, I might add), but it weighs heavily in my deliberations.

As for New Zealand radio. I don't know much about it, but would love to learn more. Do you have any links or publications which you could recommend?

Comment on Industry Super Funds. Lower fees? Doubtful. Associated with the Aboriginal Tent Embassy? Yep! by Samuel

Hello Liann,

An interesting comment, but comprehension isn't your strongest ability is it?

To start with, I did not claim that the song was about the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, as you have asserted I did. What I said is that the song was written as a funding mechachnism for the Tent Embassy.

Paul Kelly also sung the original version of the song. The fact that it is not the most well-known version does not change this. The point is that he was the original singer, and now seems to distance himself from it.

It's interesting that you claim that I do not have the full facts on this matter and that my opinion is therefore "poison". You have not refuted any of the points I made, but you have twisted my words and then pointed out flaws in your made up version of what I said. If you think I'm wrong, point out a problem in something I actually said.

And no, there is nothing racist about my comments. The real racism is within the Aboriginal Tent Embassy where radical people wish to divide the country along racial lines. While their pretense of wanting racial unification has been blown out of the water many times, the most obvious case of their fraudulent basis for existence is that they still exist in the form they have always existed, even after Kevin Rudd's apology. They were supposed to change tune and work towards burying the hatchet after that apology, but instead they are as racially charged and divisive as ever.

Most of the rest of us look past the racial origins of citizens of this country and instead look at the present motives and desires of people, but not the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, and not the more ardent left-wing activists who have latched on to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy after having realised that its true purpose is to create racial divisions. Willing or unwillingly, the Tent Embassy activists are enabling socialists, who believe that divide and conquer (along many lines, race being just one) is the best way to move society towards their failed socialists ideals, as they know that the vast majority of people will not willingly embrace socialism without serious coercion, Aborigines included, as many of them would probably be among the hardest hit under a socialist system, due to a whole range of socioeconomic factors.

Paul Kelly might have co--written the song buddy but, you cant find it because Kev Carmody sings it. It is not about the Embassy at all it is about Wave Hill walk off as the lyrics, if looked at, would have told you.
Invest with who you want and let others persuade you to do what you must, including the media, who, as you state, hide things from you. Maybe the government hides things from them too and they don't wait because it is a hot issue.
But anyway, Having your say, poisoning people to believe what you do, just to validate your opinions but not having all the facts and therefore degrading Aboriginal people and what they believe in, is a bit racist, dont you think????

It is amazing that the powers to be keep changing Announcers, especially when the loyal listeners get comfortable with these Announcers!
2UE had a winning combination with Stuart Bocking from 8pm to 12pm & Mike Jeffreys from Midnight to 530am.
Then they changed Mike to 9 now 8 till 12 & Tim Shaw from Midnight to 530, which also seemed to be a winner!
To now push Mike back to the Midnight shift seems ridiculous, as his style on the Evening Show, was Informative & Entertaining & received a Good Cross Section of people ringing the Station!
2UE Management seem to be losing a Grip on Reality - Bring Back Mike!

I retrained too. I took a paycut to do it, but it was worth it. Interesting about your radio blog. I just read a history of 1ZB in NZ. There were some great links to the West Island (Australia to you) including 2UE. Wonderful character called Uncle Scrim.

That's very kind Kelly. Thank you.

I've considered going back to study a few times, but it's not something which would fit around my current employment, and I'm quite happy with my current employment. That said, if I were to go back to study, at least now I would make a better choice than when I was 18 and was following a career path which I later discovered wasn't where my real interests lie.

No offence taken at all Kelly. I'm 24, so I suppose that does make me young.

I'm intrigued about why you're interested. Do I come across a certain way that makes it obvious that I'm young? Do you think I should be doing something differently?

I met a friend there and we had a bit of a wander around the Show after we realised that we were the only two people left outside the 2UE stand (David Oldfield did not broadcast from the Show), so the place was deserted after Stuart Bocking's show finished. We got an odd look or two from the 2UE staff when we returned around 11am, by which time they'd even turned the speakers off so that it wasn't possible to listen to David Oldfield if we had wanted to.

You certainly have some interesting tales from your PMG days Noel. It could make for a good Samuel's Persiflage episode if you were able to talk about them in such a setting.

Happy Easter to you too Noel.

Samuel I do like the bit where it says...
"If you delight in analogies, you can variety of compare the a NIC’s MAC deal with to a vehicle’s VIN amount."

Is this Scottish linguistics for "I've had too much to drink!, & am breaking out into limerics"

Hello Samuel,
You do realize there's a law about such behavior?.

Many eons ago, when I was working at the Redfern Mail Exchange, the PMG (pre-commision; ie not post days :> ),
I was rostered on on several 'shifts' at our Postal Services display. We had a layout with miniature traffic-light controlled vehicles, & a large back panel with light-boxes relating to the 'toy-train-like' layout. I was equipped with a rubber, white coat & cue. The rubber to clean the tracks (better conductivity) & the cue to push miniature cars or spear naughty children with.

At some stage one afternoon I 'escaped' into a side lane, just as a short quite-famous TV chef personality did likewise. We exchanged pleasantries, & ever since I've kicked my self for not quizzing him on some certain matters of cheffing.

I trust you are enjoying a safe & reflective Easter weekend, & wish you safe travels & nice dreamings-with-interpretations.

ie Orl thuh best, mate!

Hi Thomas,

Yes, the blog needs a bit more content. Time for sustained thought has been a bit lacking of late, but I will make a better effort to post stuff.

As for KDWN, yes their stream does prohibit non-American listeners, so I've used a VPN to get around it a few times. Also, unlike some other streams where the website's player blocks non-US visitors but the stream itself is wide open, KDWN's direct stream is also locked down. It's annoying and makes me less likely to listen, but CBS did that back in the day as well, which made listening to KXNT a pain. It's all because of a music licencing dispute, but not all companies lock down their streams so I'm not really sure why CBS and Beasley (KDWN's owner) bother.

Great updates and a relief to find some content amongst the Twitter.

Have you tried listening to KDWN recently? I tried their website but was blocked from streaming for being outside the USA.
