I’ve never quite understood the point of having a football match on ANZAC Day, I can see why, if ANZAC Day falls on a Thursday or Monday (or in the case of the NRL, Tuesday), they might want to extend the round by a day for the public holiday, but I don’t see the point in having a football match on ANZAC Day. None the less today is Wednesday, it’s also ANZAC Day, and the AFL and NRL in their infinite collective wisdom have decided that today would be a good day to start round 5, and as such, my footy tips get pushed forward as well.

Some of you have been concerned enough to send me emails about my well-being, others have just been concerned, and the rest of you are wondering what I’m babbling about.
I have not been well this week, I was rather ill during Easter due to a combination of mild food poisoning and general ill health, and have been mildly better during the week. I have been well enough to work a midnight to dawn shift during which a minimal amount is required of me, and then sleep pretty much all day in an effort to feel a bit better and not put up with constant nagging headaches. The one upside that I can think of here is that I don’t have to use up any sick leave for this to work, and I can still feel somewhat useful and productive. On the other hand, you could call me insane.
This should explain why I haven’t posted anything here for about a week. Even now I have no intention of writing much, and probably won’t write much at all until next week. I will, however, make an effort to post some video excitement here tonight or tomorrow for your entertainment.
In the mean time, here are my footy tips for this weekend. Eventually I will get around to writing the results from last week.

It’s all over for another year…and it looks like I came out just ahead of the 50% line, with my NRL tipping being just slightly better than my AFL tipping. This is also the only weekend of the year where I managed a perfect score in both competitions!

Only one weekend to go, and it’s the weekend that gives teams gloating rights for the next 52 weeks!
The weekend that just passed was a mixed bag for me, as people who followed Loki’s updates in the recent Footy Tipping post would know all about. My AFL tips were spot on, but the NRL tips were only slightly above negative territory…a very round figure.

This now puts my AFL percentage within striking distance of my NRL percentage, but only if I correctly tip the winner of the AFL Grand Final, and fail to tip the winner of the NRL Grand Final. The possibilities are as follows:

The ACTAFL Grand Final should get underway at Manuka Oval shortly, with the Belconnen Magpies up against the Sydney Swans Reserves. Sydney are undefeated this year (and last year too apparently), whilst Belconnen won the three premierships before that.
I’m tipping Belconnen to win, the only real reason being that last year when Sydney won the ACTAFL Grand Final they also won the AFL Grand Final…and as I intend on tipping West Coast to defeat Sydney win the AFL Grand Final this year, I also shall tip Belconnen to defeat Sydney, and influence the AFL Grand Final by omen.
Perhaps I’m nuts, but go the Magpies!
