In this episode we see Samuel having coffee with Brian Henderson, and Samuel giving Brian the golden microphone so that he can give it to Lawsie for his 50 years of broadcasting, a task which Brian is more than pleased to carry out.

With the Dolgnwot Assay Office closed due to the apparent lack of gold in Dolgnwot, Samuel travels to the nearest assay office, which happens to be in Ballarat. The assay officer seems to think that it would be a good idea to re open the Dolgnwot Assay Office.

The Ballarat Assay Office has a clock much like the one we saw in Samuel’s truck in episode four, and it is displaying a time of 10AM.

This week we join Samuel a few hours after last week’s picture, at 5:15pm, and Samuel is checking how much gold he found. As it turns out, Samuel found 35,280oz (1,000.17118 KG) of gold and a golden microphone.

Samuel also has a cup of coffee waiting for him on the table.

I have been manually attempting to fix this with some tweaks to the brightness and contrast, which works to an extent.

However GIMP has a most useful feature which is designed to fix up the colours on scanned images automatically (it can be found under “Layer–>Colors–>Levels” and click the “Auto” button (Yes, I know, American software with American english). It does an excellent job.

I have now gone through and fixed up all of the Samuel In Dolgnwot images, and as such, they are now much more like the drawings, and much more lively.

This episode was drawn on Saturday morning at about 4am whilst listening to John Kerr on the wireless. It is also the first episode to use a mechanical random number generator to decide the number of horizontal and vertical lines. In this case it went for 9 vertical lines and 8 horizontal lines. The random number generator I am using is a mini roulette wheel (standard type, not the american version which adds a 38th spot containing “00″), and instead of using a ball on the wheel, I use a marker at the top of the wheel holder to decide the number. I then use the last digit of the number, and take “0″ as “10″. The number on the wheel used for the vertical lines (which are drawn first) cannot be reused for the horizontal lines, however it is possible to have the same amount of horizontal and vertical lines as many numbers on the wheel share the same last digit.

For example, if I spin up “25″, I would then have five vertical lines, and the next spin might be “30″ which would give me 10 horizontal lines. The only number which would not be permitted as the second number in this case would be “25″, as it is already the first number.

The shape and size of this paper seems to induce a natural response of 5 vertical lines and 4 horizontal lines, which is producing a rather monotonous pattern of backround colouring, so I think I will be using a natural mechanical random number generator for the future line numbers, which will produce a much more interestingly varied amount of background patterns.

And now it’s time for episode one, which picks up where series one left off, with Samuel drinking coffee after returning home from the now goldless goldfields of Dolgnwot.

The new series will be released weekly on Sundays, however the first episode will appear tomorrow (Monday) night. The reason for this is that the new series picks up where the old series left off, and it is important that we quicky recap Series 1 of Samuel In Dolgnwot.

Well, I’ve always liked it, and I know some other people that do to, but now I have official confirmation that Jim Goar from Can Of Corn likes Samuel In Dolgnwot, describing it as “high grade cartoons”.

I must say I’m flattered, I never really thought my drawings were “high grade”, I always liked them, but I never thought an outsider (somebody who isn’t me) would like them that much.

With the support I am receiving for the Samuel In Dolgnwot series, I might just have to draw another series, maybe.

Well, we have reached the double image finale of Samuel In Dolgnwot.
With the gold supply in Dolgnwot having run out, Samuel decides it is time to return to his home in Canberra in his futuristic truck.

Here, for the first time, we see his truck in it’s entirety. At the front (left) is the driver’s cabin, followed by the gold storage container, the gold digging and sorting machine, the living quarters and the horses living quarters. The horse is of course visible in the first and second episodes of Samuel In Dolgnwot.

The second image shows the teacher (Mrs. Brophy) left a tick on the accompanying page, which is a very good way to end the series.
