2UE’s New Intro for New Day Australia

I first noticed this on the weekend but only now have had a chance to record it.

2UE have changed the intro for New Day Australia. So far I have only heard the new intro on John Kerr’s show, but it could very well be altered for all of the presenters which would probably be a good idea considering that there have been two different intros used since Stuart Bocking hosted the show…although I don’t remember if his new intro fist graced the airwaves in 2005 when he took over the weekend shift, or 2006 when he took over weekdays.

The old intro had been in use for as long as I had been listening (mid 2003) and as far as I can tell it was used from the time John started hosting New Day Australia in 1994 (Update: Davky points out in the comments below that John used a song by Basia prior to the music I’m used to). I’m sure that I have a better copy of the old intro around here somewhere (I just don’t know where), but that’s irrelevant as I have found a good enough copy from a couple years ago. Here are the old and new intros for New Day Australia:

I prefer the old one, but I suppose the new one will grow on me.

The old one was a song from a European singer named Basia – the album was one of the first cassettes that I owned in the mid-late 80s – my parents won it at a trivia night at the local Baptist Church.

Hmmm, sweet memories.

You must be reading my mind Davky…I was considering asking if anyone knew the name of the old song. I came to the conclusion that it was a song and not a piece of commissioned production music a while back when Paul Makin played the extended version as a way to end his show by instilling in your mind that it is, in fact, a new day, a new day, a new day…

I’ll see if I can find the song, and if so I’ll add it to the Musicians Of The Week list for a future appearance.

Thanks Davky.

Hmmm, OK found it, but it doesn’t sound remotely like the song in the old New Day intro…are you sure about this Davky?

Never mind me, I tried a song called “New Day For You” by Basia and that’s definitely not it. I’ll keep looking through her other stuff. You wouldn’t happen to know the name of the actual song would you?

Yeah it was ‘New Day For You’ but seeing as you aren’t convinced I’d take a guess that it isn’t the most recent one used by John Kerr.

They definitely used it though sometime in the last six years!

The part of the song used was at 1min 50sec
‘A new day for you
A new day for you
A new day for you
A new day for you.’
Ok, so not Keats, but I like the song….

I’ve just listened to your mp3 above and yes, it is different. Basia was definitely used previously though.

OK, thanks for that Davky. I’ll correct my above comment about the version in my MP3 being used since the mid 90s.

I do like Basia’s song though, and I’m adding it to the Musicians Of The Week list. I might try and bother somebody at 2UE about the origins of the song in my MP3…now that I think about, “It’s a new day” are about the only words for a good minute or so…maybe it is a production piece after all, my searches for its lyrics constantly come up with nothing.

I to searched for the lyrics and couldn’t find them. Also, you won’t be hearing the intro for Clive Robertson as he resigned from 2UE on Wednesday. I really think he was not used well enough at 2UE and was wasted in Mid-Dawns. Hopefully he will turn up somewhere else.

Don’t really care what intros John as long as he is on air.
Is it just me or does anyone else find JK’s voice a great comfort overnight?
So used to John’s voice overnight, nobody else sounds like John.
