Unless my flu has confused me, today is Tuesday, in which case it is WIN Television who are confused.
Currently they are screening a repeat of Bert’s Family Feud, and the episode they are screening is one of the “Mad Monday” episodes, so Bert can be heard constantly referring to today as “Monday”.
It reminds me of something which happened nearly ten years ago on WIN when they had fallen behind Channel Nine in episodes of Sale Of The Century, so they ran two each day. Monday and Tuesday on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday on Tuesday, Friday and Monday on Wednesday (very strange having Glenn Ridge say at 5:29 “see you next week”* and then say at 5:30 “Welcome to a brand new week, how was your weekend?”*) etc etc.
Game shows, along with news bulletins and current affairs show make constant mention of the day of the week, and even the date (the game shows seem to enjoy sponsoring charity days), and yet of the shows in this category, only game shows get repeated. Usually the stations manage to synchronise the days of the week, and it is quite amusing when they don’t.
I do have to wonder though, if stations can repeat game shows, why can’t they repeat the news? It could be a very interesting nostalgia program, perhaps repeating a bulletin from this date last year and this date ten years ago. I think it would be quite interesting.

And here’s me thinking that people watched game-shows for the entertainment. Now I discover that they watch it, in fact, to discover the day.

I actually reckon you’re dead right about repeating old news bulletins, Samuel. That would make for interesting viewing.

Very droll Clayton. I just think that if they are going to show programs which claim it is a certain day of the week, then they should be shown on that day.
Editor, it’s been a while, good to see you’re still lurking around here. I thought about this a bit more and then I realised why it might not be possible to repeat news bulletins…they probably aren’t in the archive any more, and I think that is a shame as television news is as much a part of our day as newspapers were in 1900. They should be preserved.

Looks like someone’s mixed up the broadcast tapes or entered wrong information into the playout system.
Sadly, some news stuff probably won’t ever be broadcast again, especially the early material – some of it is on film, others are on 2 inch videotape of which only 3 or 4 machines still exist (Screensound have one of those), and some don’t exist at all anymore due to what was known as “the great purge of the 80’s” where many tapes were either thrown away or erased and re-used for other programs. 2 inch videotape was an expensive commodity for stations, costing upwards of $300 for one 1 hour roll – so they thought it economical to just erase and re-use the tapes…the result being many programs once broadcast no longer exist.

It looks like it’s a day for television errors. ABC TV tonight managed to delay the start of Foreign Correspondent by about 15 seconds by starting the broadcast with the recording ID screen (I can’t think of the actual name of that screen), followed by dead air, and then the actual program.

I get most of my news from radio 4BC.
I like it because if anything breaks we get it on the hour every hour and it is a focus from Brisbane, covering Brisbane news too.
Please don’t ever change that Southern Cross or you’ll lose my ear.

As for tv game shows, nah, they bore me now.
I think they have out stayed their welcome, same goes for reality shows.
7 years on and they seem old hat now.
Keep yawning us free to air channels and you’ll create a zombie super race.
Hey, that’s not a bad story for a film.
TV slowly rots everyone’s brain and they start attacking the tv studios as zombies.
They could call it, Dead Ratings or Viewer’s Revenge or Dead Brother.
Hey, it just might sell.
