Tony

Good morning Lawsie,

Your earlier caller Tony certainly inhabits an interesting world…everything seems to run backwards there. Based on his logic, petrol enters cars because they move, and you get electricity because the light is turned on.

Regards,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

Its not the same Tony that comments here, is it?

Well, considering that Tony has been absent from here for a little while, I’m starting to wonder that myself. I might send him an email to find out.

For what it’s worth, my comment about Tony (the caller to the John Laws show) was not entirely serious. I agreed with a reasonable chunk of his points, but I found the logic he used to reach a number of them to be quite puzzling.

Who is this other Tony, obviously a mindless clone running around.
I didn’t hear that call, what did I miss?
I have never called John Laws, not that I haven’t wanted to, but just thought my chances of getting through would be slim.
Mind you I’m glad at least one Tony got through the fortress fence.

You didn’t miss an awful lot (except some hilarity) Tony.

Remember the famous quote of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen “Don’t you worry about that”? Well the basic premise of Tony’s call to John Laws was that when it comes to Howard government, that quote is applicable, and they know best on everything.

He had a few valid points, but the logic he used to reach them was astonishingly bizzare and amusing.

I wonder if he liked salt?
Then Lawsy could file him under the salted nuts file.
Some people who ring talkback disturb me, but I guess it’s those callers that keep me listening at the same time.
After listening to some callers though I feel like I’ve slipped off the planet.

I think you’d get some good compilation albums out of all the nuts who ring up talkback radio. They do provide some perverse entertainment.

I couldn’t stop laughing for nearly an hour after hearing Betty’s call to John Laws on Thursday morning.

I have Stan’s double cd he put out in the 90’s Samuel and after listening to those you wonder what psyc-wards were left open those nights.
I like Tracy who rings John.
I think Trace has a good soul.
Also Graham and Joanna, Joel.
Oh there are so many so I’ll just say most.
Even the ones that drive John up the wall are fun and the taxi and pizza calls.

The taxi calls are rather amusing, especially when they wait on hold for ten or twenty minutes before John gets to them…you would think that:
A: They get a Sydney radio station whilst on hold
B: The person who answers their call is the person on the Sydney radio station
C: The fact that John generally answers with the peculiar greeting “New Day good morning”
Would be enough for them to work out that they haven’t called a taxi company…but so many of them sound genuinely shocked.

I suppose you’ve heard Marianne talking to (or to be more precise lecturing) John Kerr…she manages to get louder and louder and louder as the call goes on, never seems to be even remotely interested in anything John might say, and then slams the phone down once she’s finished. She always manages to amuse me.

I wonder if the talk back hosts realize how important they are and what a good service they do for the listeners?
There are so many people on their own these days and those facing awful situations that life has dealt them and besides good company from the host and fellow callers we get a jolly good laugh from time to time.
Let’s face it, laughter is the best medicine for whatever brings you down.
I think Talk back hosts do more good than they are given credit for, I really do.
There is nothing like Australian talkback anywhere in the world.
A truly one of a kind experience, hence so many overseas people tune in to Oz talkback.
