The peculiar bored picture spammers

July 26th, 2007 at 03:56am

Following on from my comments yesterday about spammers claiming to be female whilst using male names, I have finally picked out one of these strange people to try and work out what the point of this spam is.

As far as I can tell there doesn’t seem to be any logic to this spam as I can’t see any way that it would be of any benefit to the spammer. Surely a Nigerian money scam would be much more profitable?

Anyway, I’m going to find out, and attempt to keep you up to date on the progress of this project. Here is the email I have chosen to reply to.

Hello! I am tired tonight. I am nice girl that would like to chat with you. Email me at abent@imailmessage.info only, because I am writing not from my personal email. I want to show you some pictures.

And my reply:

Hello Simon,

I am sorry to hear that you are bored and I hope that I will be able to make you feel better.

I look forward to chatting with you…and it is rather interesting that you mention that you would like to show me some pictures, because I have some pictures that I would like to show to you. Isn’t that amazing? I think that coincidence proves that we are going to have a great conversation.

I eagerly look forward to your reply!

Best wishes,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

Does anyone else think that Simon will be surprised when he finds out that the pictures I have for him are of construction sites in Civic?

Samuel

Although, I wouldnt have finished with “best wishes, SGS”. Something more flirtatious would have done it.

A hint as to the pictures perhaps?

    “Constructively yours…”

    “Constructively” – I think I get it.
Will you be showing Simon your pictures of new erections in Civic?

Maybe you could offer up some ‘action”…bus timetables

I’m still waiting for Simon to reply. Once she does that, I have plenty of pictures for her.

Haha I love to waste the time of scammers.

Just a theory. But I have heard of scams were somebody poses as an attractive female/male and basically they try to con you into joining dating sites.

These sites appear free but have some sort of catch. For example you get told that somebody has shown interest in you (which is faked by the scammer) and in order to read their message you have to pay a fee. The emails continue for as long as the scammer can con you into paying fees.

On the other hand maybe “she” simply wants to send you a virus and compromise your computer…

Just be careful Samuel, you never know who you are sending anything to online really.
I got a letter in the mail telling me they wanted to use my bank account to pass money through giving me a percentage and on reading that, tore it up and put it in the bin.
They might be seeing if you answer to rope you in.
    Just be careful mate.
I’ve had phone scammers in the past too, trying to trick my bank details, it’s annoying.
