I thought I wrote this the other day, but apparently not.
John Brennan OAM, 2GB program director, former 2UE program director, and absolute radio industry legend, has retired.
Brennan is the most successful program director in the history of Australian radio, and will be sorely missed.

He is very well known inside the radio industry…but considering the fact that almost nobody outside a radio station knows who the program director is (or what they do), I’m hardly surprised that John Brennan is not a household name.

I don’t think he has actually retired Sam. I believe he has opened up a chain of hairdressing franchises.

Longevity for one. He also ran an absolute powerhouse station and the leading radio station in Sydney for most of his career.

True, but to remain a program director for as long as he did requires a certain amount of success. In his case, amongst the achievements were 50 number one survey wins at 2UE and 25 number one survey wins at 2GB.
I’m not saying that he is the only person responsible for the ratings…that would be silly…but when you consider that 2UE’s ratings have been much lower since Brenno left, I think it’s fair to say he had quite an impact.

But success is relative, Sam. Sure, he had 50 number one wins, but he aimed for 100, he only achieved half of his target. In those terms, he may not have considered himself successful.

I see your point now Pen, although I would have to say that anybody aiming for 100 ratings wins in radio is mildly delusional, especially if they want them all at the one station.
