ACTION Poem

Hi Mike,

An ACTION poem for your amusement.

There once was a thing called ACTION
A bunch of big buses with traction
Then along came a Turnip
He saw the timetable and said "burn it"
Now the service is only a fraction

Regards,
Samuel Gordon-Stewart

Amen, Sambo!
Well said.

OK, I’ve spent a good five minutes on this one….

There once was a Comrade called Jon,
Who fooled the plebs at the election,
Cutting costs galore,
Increasing rates more and more,
When he looked at the buses he got an e*ection!

I wonder if I should print a copy of this page and post it to Stanhope’s office?

If he subscribes to the theory that any publicity is good publicity, he was probably salivating during Jeffreys’ show yesterday.

Indeed, he almost had the entire show dedicated to him…and people got prizes for thinking about him. I think it would be fairly safe to say that, at least this far out from the election, Jon Stanhope doesn’t care what the public think of him, just as long as they are thinking of him.

Slightly off-topic, but I noticed during Peter Leonard’s tribute on WIN News, that in one shot Turnip appeared to be sitting in the studio with him being interviewed.

Did this happen often?
I admit I am not a nightly viewer of WIN News, but have never seen anyone interviewed in the studio. Has the format changed? Were interviews previously done during the news?

It is a pity that it does not happen now as a bit of local political/current affairs interviewing would be a good thing for television.

I believe that interview was on the day of the 2003 bushfire, as I have never seen anyone interviewed at any other time in the studio.

Although, now that I think about it, technically people get interviewed in that studio all the time as on the other side of the room are a couple chairs used for Today’s Canberra based interviews.

It would be nice to see a local current affairs show (proper current affairs, not dodgy plumbers and chickens) to replace A Current Affair at 7pm. I’m not entirely sure that they would be able to fill the half hour every night though, so perhaps they could run some of the top stories from other WIN bulletins around the country in the show as well.

Perhaps they could take five minutes out of WIN News once or twice a week for a proper interview of Turnip, or Wild Bill etc. They would need a proper interviewer though – I’m not sure if WIN has someone with the journalistic integrity, however – they may need to mature Phil Small for the role.

Let’s face it, the WIN News is full of puff pieces, cats stuck up trees and local school children winning awards. They could easily pull a few of those and replace them with a proper interview or investigation segment.

That sounds a lot more plausible than my idea Davky, although I would still like to see ACA replaced by something…anything…even reruns of last year’s news would be better than ACA.

Haha. I loved the part about the turnip! When will it be published? I want to get a hard copy.
