Now that Stan Zemanek has retired, the big question which a lot of radio industry people want answered is who will replace him…well the answer came to me in a dream.
In this dream John Kerr is in my kitchen making himself a cup of coffee, and I ask him who is going to take over from Stan, John then leans over and whispers in my ear that it will be Stuart Bocking…John then tells me that he is going to be doing the midnight to dawn shift seven days a week.
As for whether or not the dream is accurate, I doubt the second point is, but the first one is possible.

Glenn is certainly a viable option, but the question then is who would take over the weekend show. The minimal information I have suggests that it will be someone from outside the station.
One person who I doubt has even put his hand up is erstwhile 2CC presenter/producer Kane Bond, his Saturday show was a perfect audition for Stan’s show…pity he seems to have disappeared into the ether.

My money is on Stuart Bocking. One thing is for sure John Kerr wont be asked to do weekday mid dawn if Bocking moves to nights.

I gather that Stuart has been looking for a shift with less arduous hours, and with Stan’s shift up for grabs, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets it. I think you’re right that John Kerr won’t be moved back to weekdays (I think he would decline the offer anyway), but that leaves the question of who would get that shift. Clive Robertson, interesting man that he can be, is only palatable in small doses, and Clinton Maynard is hardly likely to give up his role as News Director.

I assume Bocking will get it also. He seems to have had a dream run, despite having a voice that I would not call particularly soothing and calming. Actually, I find him grating and obnoxious.
But he seems to have built up quite a profile and following from working with Laws for so long.

To be perfectly honest, whilst I think Bocking is the most likely current 2UE employee to get the gig, I’d rather have Glenn Wheeler on Stan’s show. I would also like to have George Moore and Paul B. Kidd moved back to weekend afternoons (I’d get to hear them then…it won’t happen though).
I agree about Stuart’s voice…I wouldn’t call it soothing either, and I honestly thought he wouldn’t last when he took over from George Gibson on weekend New Day, and subsequently John Kerr on weekday New Day. He proved me wrong, I got used to his voice, and I quite like the man now.
I think his extensive stint as Executive Producer of the John Laws Morning Show gave him a number of friends in high places, and that has helped his career move along. It was obvious that something was planned for him when he “disappeared” from Lawsie’s show. I think he is being groomed for 2UE’s afternoon show, as I think John Stanley will either get breakfast or drive when Lawsie retires.
I’m not having a shot at you here Davky, I’m just interested, what do you find obnoxious about Bocking?

I find him a little bit of a smart alec, Sambo. A little over-confident and arrogant. Perhaps a little self-indulgingly laconic. That’s purely a personality thing – I don’t begrudge other people being fans.

I can see where you’re coming from with that actually, I can certainly understand how he would come across that way to some people.
