Aussie Drink Driver

This week the (late) Friday Funny comes from 2UE’s Stuart Bocking (who apparently received it by email).

Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a local neighbourhood tavern.

Late in the evening the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the car park for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing.

After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five vehicles, the man managed to find his car, which he fell into. He was there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine dry night), flicked the indicators on, then off, tooted the horn and then switched on the lights.

He moved the vehicle forward a few cm, reversed a little and then remained stationary for a few more minutes as some more vehicles left.

At last he pulled out of the car park and started to drive slowly down the road. The police officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over and carried out a breathalyser test.

To his amazement the breathalyser indicated no evidence of the man having consumed alcohol at all!

Dumbfounded, the officer said; “I’ll have to ask you to accompany me to the Police station this breathalyser equipment must be broken.”

“I doubt it,” said the man, “tonight I’m the designated decoy”.

Drink driving should never be considered funny. Going by the nations road toll, I think we should be taking the issue seriously.

Anyone who has had a loved one killed by a drink driver would like to take the decoy out side and torture him/her for all eternity.

Some forethought should have been taken by Stuart before airing such tripe.

Sorry Samuel, having a light hearted laugh aside, this Friday Funny is quite immature.

I agree that Drink Driving is a serious issue…and Stuart made that point as well before and after airing the joke. None the less, I think it is a worthwhile joke, worthy of a small chuckle, and I think it was a decent effort for a Friday Funny which almost didn’t happen, and was revived by a Saturday Funny instead.

Good on Stuart for making that point. Always the sensible one.

Unfortunately, your reproduction of the joke without reproducing the condemnation of drink-driving gives the appearance that you consider the issue laughable.

Of course, after reading your comments, I know thats not the case But people who do not read the comments might not see that.

The real question is if the drunk driver had killed some one when driving.

Is it his fault.
Or does the blame lie on the police for not stopping him BEFORE he could of caused it.

In most circumstances I would say it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that they are not in a state (be it drunk, drugged, fatigued, etc) where they are unfit to drive. The only time I think the blame can lie with the police is if they knowingly allow such a person to drive.
