Hi John,
The name of the computer in "2001: A Space Odyssey" was called "HAL", which is actually one letter in the alphabet back from "IBM"!
Douglas Rain was the voice of HAL.

Incidentally John, where do you get the television pictures for your historical posts, like your current [1] post? Do you have a collection of historical footage or do you just keep an eye out for television documentaries?
I must say that the things I learn from reading your blogs are nothing short of astounding.

All on tape Samuel. I’ve been collecting TV documentaries for almost 20 years now. A lot of them were originally on Beta, and I had to transfer them over to VHS.

That’s what I call commitment! You must have an awful lot of interesting information on those tapes.
Unfortunately I’m too young to have ever experienced the quality difference between VHS and Beta.

That’s where I have a big advantage.
On the downside, it means I won’t be around as long as you will
be !
