James Goodwin Heads Back To Radio

WIN News lose a great reporter today, because James Goodwin is heading back to the Parliament House Press Gallery.

James is moving to 2GB where he will fill a similar role to the one he filled with 2UE, of national political correspondent. James has apparently been recruited specifically to cover the upcoming federal election (my first vote…yay!) but I wouldn’t be surprised if 2GB have spotted some talent and their Current Affairs Director, Jason Morrison, has earmarked James for some fill-in work over the Christmas/New Year period…in fact, 2GB’s middawn fill-in George Gibson has recently had a heart operation and is (supposedly) taking it easy for a while…I wonder if James would be willing to try the middawn shift?

Anyway, I digress, James has been recruited for the election, and obviously for other federal political reporting activities. James has done an excellent job for WIN News, and I will miss seeing him on the TV each night…but the media is a game of random shuffles and people move an awful lot…in James’ case, I suspect it is for the better.

James will still fill-in on Capital Radio News (2CA/2CC) when he is required, and will in fact be filling in tomorrow morning, which reminds me that Capital Radio News should be back to normal on Monday with Jane Turner and Francis Keeny (I just get the feeling there’s a “H” in that name somewhere…and probably another “E”…and perhaps an “IE” instead of the “Y”…this will drive me nuts until I find out the correct spelling) back on deck in their normal roles.

Best of luck with the move James…I probably won’t hear much of you, but I’ll have to keep an ear out…maybe 2GB will get you to present one of their podcasts…if they setup a federal election podcast then I’m almost certain you’ll be hosting it!

Good luck James. I hope Samuel keeps us up to date. All the best and say Lawslie.

Yes, great to see him heading back to his roots in radio – definitely a step up in to a fine stable!

Going on your comment from the last post, I will make myself available to monitor comments. I was he milk monitor at school and did a very good job.

I also did the lunch orders and made sure that the change was correctly sticky tapped to the corner of the brown paper bag.

Therefore I nominate myself as moderator of this blog with Loki as my proxy because he seems to the person who would uphold the principles set forth by SGS.

Samuel, did you go the the Dickson College festival?
Any chance of a report?

Motion seconded. Naturally, such a position of responsibility would involve an elevation in membership status from tin to gold, with bar. And you get to dine in the officers’ mess. And you should also get a personal aide, perhaps a nurse, with nipples like buckcherries.

Posters, especially from the tin ranks, should not be allowed to go calling people clowns, dingoes, turkeys and geese willy-nilly.

To paraphrase LBJ (US President Lyndon Baines Johnston): “I will not seek nor will I accept my party’s nomination [for moderator on Samuel’s Blog]”.

Neither can I support Chuck’s tilt – such action would effectively be putting the lunatics in charge of the asylum.

I’m afraid the fact I was seduced by The Dark Side and posted a link to a very odd sculpture shows a certain significant flaw in my character.

When I was on the receiving end of a very odd sculpture link it almost prompted a dramatic exit from the internet … something I have not ruled out regarding Samuel’s Blog (without the offending link) in the light of my recent erratic posts.

It was not sheer naughyness on the Robbie Waterhouse scale, but naughtyness nonetheless.

Anyway, this is all off topic, and would definitely come under the auspices of “unwelcome behaviour”, so I will attempt to get proceedings back on track by wishing James the best for his return to radio, which I know you will all join me in doing.

And Colonel, I’m sure Buckcherries are very nice, but please bear in mind this is a family friendly site.

Can I add that Captain Flume would not be suitable for the job because he possibly has, as described by Samuel, “adult material oriented” comments that may be misconstrued by some readers.

I for one can’t see anything that is related to material adults or material girls. However, that is only my observation.

The only “adult material orientated” comments were from a contributor who goes under countless underscored names.

I don’t listen to 2CA. But often I listen to the pure, babbling call of the magpie as it swoops me atop the fair green crest of yonder gum tree.

That is what it means to be an Australian.

To have the wireless tuned in to loons on talkback, while scorching a spatch or three on the barbs, the dog running around, getting swooped, aguing about the footy.

God, Chuck, I don’t want the job. My grandfather farmed the earth at Swan Hill for the best part of a half century and claimed wire twine was what got him through it. This guy used to sole his shoes with rubber tires. He was a cheap old bastard but he loved politics and was a die hard labour man.

I beg leave from Sam to be demoted from tin to rubber status. In memory of my grandpa.

FYI, 2CA plays music, not “loons on talkback”

#12 Comment By Loki On November 22, 2006 @ 12:59 pm

Captain, if it’s “loons on talkback” you seek, I would suggest tuning in to Ray Hadley and Alan Jones on 2GB.

#13 Comment By Captain Flume On November 22, 2006 @ 8:54 pm

Sam, FYI, I said I didn’t listen to 2CA. Ergo, no music, but loons on talkback.

Captain, I could have been certain it was the_total_cynic who said that…in fact yes, (s)he did.

No apology necessary. They just erected a statue of Charles Joseph La Trobe the first lieutenant-governor of the of Victoria out the front of the State Library today. The bronze statue has gold cuff links and a coloured feathered hat. They have five statues on the lawn now how many pretentious rich pricks do they want attracting the poo of pidgeons?

La Trobe pales in comparison to the fore-bare of the Colonel. Anyone who ploughed the Mallee in the extreme heat and cold, re-soles their shoes with tyre rubber and is a die hard Labour man deserves a statue. What a dude. My fore-bares did the hard yards too and were from that harsh region. In memory of their effort I salute them and demand a statue.

Hats off to them.

Mr Spear … hate to be pedantic, but I think you mean “forbears”, not “forbares” unless your ancestors took to disrobing in public places, which – perusing your previous posts – was a very likely scenario.

#17 Comment By Loki On November 23, 2006 @ 1:56 pm

And I am extremely concerned the_total_cynic is now not only of uncertain underscored identity, but apparently also of mixed gender [(s)he]. Very odd, to say the least!
