Canberra Balloon Fiesta with Samuel & Nattie Samuel In Dolgnwot: Series 2, Episode 8

Samuel’s Musician Of The Week

April 24th, 2006 at 06:52pm

This week the award goes to Carole King, one of the most recognisable voices of the 1960’s and 1970’s (Think of “You make me feel like a natural woman” and you’ll know the voice).

The feature song this week is “Beautiful”

You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You’re gonna find, yes, you will
That you’re beautiful as you feel

Waiting at the station with a workday wind a-blowing
I’ve got nothing to do but watch the passers-by
Mirrored in their faces I see frustration growing
And they don’t see it showing, why do I?

You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You’re gonna find, yes, you will
That you’re beautiful as you feel

I have often asked myself the reason for the sadness
In a world where tears are just a lullaby
If there’s any answer, maybe love can end the madness
Maybe not, oh, but we can only try

You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You’re gonna find, yes, you will
That you’re beautiful, you’re beautiful, you’re beautiful as you feel

Were you tossing up between this song and ‘Muffin Man’ by Frank Zappa?

I’m still waiting for “What’s a matter you” by that eminient urban poet Joe Dolce to make this revered roster …

Although “Muffin Man” in the unplugged duet version with Norman Gunston would have been a fine choice!

The feature song is always one sung by the winner of the award.
